A networked system having a wide variety of applications and particularly applicable to facilities management systems has multiple levels of software in processing nodes. The levels include a "features" processing level which communicates requests for data to a software object level containing databases of processes and attributes and database managers. The database managers in the software object level operate to provide data to the high level features in the same format. The software object level communicates with a hardware object level which also contains databases and database managers to mask differences between operational hardware units. By categorizing operational units by type, additional units of a known type can be added with only low level hardware object database changes. Adding units of a new type is facilitated by software changes confined to the lower level hardware and software objects, avoiding software changes at high level features. Individual software objects are tailored for typical types of inputs and output devices encountered by facilities management systems. Universal drive circuitry also provides applicability to a broad range of devices.

Networked facilities management system

In order to minimize the number of valves and conduits and the amount of coolant must be carried in an auxiliary reservoir of an evaporative type automotive cooling system, the valve and conduit arrangement which communicates the normally closed circuit cooling system with the reservoir consists of only two conduits and two valves. When the engine is stopped the cooling circuit is allowed to fill completely with the coolant from the reservoir. When the engine is started a low temperature non-condensible matter purge operation is avoided and if the temperature rises above a target value, either coolant is pumped out of the system (if excess coolant is available therein) or high temperature vapor is vented from the bottom of the radiator in bursts to purge out the non-condensible matter.

A vehicle body front structure includes: a front side member arranged in a vehicle body longitudinal direction at an outer side of a vehicle body front in a vehicle width direction; a protrusion member provided on or to an outer wall of the front side member so as to protrude outward of the outer wall in the vehicle width direction, a rear end portion of the protrusion member being located to a vehicle body rear side of a vehicle body front-side end portion of a power unit arranged to an inner side of the front side member in the vehicle width direction in plan view; and a coupling member having one end portion connected to the rear end portion of the protrusion member and the other end portion connected to the outer wall of the front side member to a vehicle body rear side of the rear end portion.

A first projection portion projecting outward, in a vehicle width direction, from a front side frame is provided. A front end of the first projection portion is located at the same position, in the vehicle longitudinal direction, as a connection portion of a crash can to the front side frame or located in back of the connection portion. An outward side face of the first projection portion is configured to slant rearward and inward in a plan view. The first projection portion and a power unit are arranged to overlap each other in the vehicle longitudinal direction. Accordingly, an impact transmitted to a vehicle-compartment side in a small overlap collision can be reduced, restraining repair costs of the crash can broken in a low-speed collision as well as maintaining appropriate design flexibility of a vehicle-body front portion.

A malfunction of a thermostat in a coolant circulating path is detected from an engine side coolant temperature in consideration of the following behavior of the coolant temperature. When an open-malfunction occurs, the coolant temperature becomes different considerably from that in the normal time in the temperature range in which the thermostat is to be normally closed. When a closure-malfunction occurs, the coolant temperature becomes different considerably from that during the normal time in the temperature range in which the thermostat is to be normally opened. Alternatively, the malfunction may be detected from a difference between the engine side coolant temperature and a radiator side coolant temperature.

An inflatable bag assembly is suitable for a seat of a vehicle such as an assistant driver's seat and has a bag which is inflatable in a curved configuration offset to one side. The bag is accommodated in a retainer case in a folded position. A gas generator has a gas outlet which is offset to one side with respect to the bag. Alternatively, the bag itself may be distributed less to one side of the retainer case than to the other side. Such a configuration of the gas generator or the bag allows the bag to begin inflating at the particular side mentioned above.

A back-up system for an engine coolant temperature sensor detects deviation of the output of the temperature sensor from its designed output range to produce a fault signal. In response to the fault signal, an engine control system derives the engine coolant temperature indirectly from other engine conditions. This derivation is based on two facts: (1) the amount of fuel required to start the engine is related to engine temperature, and (2) since the calorific value of a given engine is essentially constant, the rate of increase of engine temperature is related to the integrated number of engine revolutions. Thus, when the engine is to be started, engine temperature can be derived by gradually increasing the fuel supply quantity from a minimal initial value until the engine is able to start to determine the required fuel supply quantity. Thereafter, the derived temperature value can be updated as a function of total engine revolutions.

Back-up system and method for engine coolant temperature sensor in electronic engine control system

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress damage to the side face of the other vehicle to the minimum in the case of a side impact to the other vehicle while securing safety performance against a collision of an own vehicle. SOLUTION: Two ends of a bumper beam 13 connected with front ends of a pair of front side frames 12 and front ends of a pair of upper members 14 are connected with two ends of a cross member 17 connected with front ends of a pair of lower members 16 branching downward from upper members 14 and extending toward the front side of the vehicle body in the vertical direction using a pair of first connection members 18. Thus, the penetration of the bumper beam 13, front side frames, and the upper members colliding with a door of the other vehicle or its center pillar into a cabin of the other vehicle can be suppressed to the minimum by allowing the cross member 17 in a position below the bumper beam 13 at the time of the side impact to the other vehicle to collide with the side sill of the other vehicle, and by dispersing collision loads applied to the lower members 16 to the upper members 14, safety against the collision of the own vehicle can be secured. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front part structure of a vehicle body for transmitting an impact load to a subframe by increasing crush strokes of the subframe. SOLUTION: The front part structure of the vehicle body 11 includes: a front side frame 15 extending from a lower side of a dashboard 28 being a front wall of a vehicle interior 26 to a front side of the vehicle by kickup (in a direction of an arrow a2); and the subframe 21 suspended from a front part installation part 51 and a rear part installation part 52 provided at the front part 46 and the rear part 47 of the front side frame 15, respectively. The subframe 21 is sequentially installed with a steering gear box and an engine in the front side of the dashboard 28, and separately forms at least two fragile parts (front part fragile part 54, rear part fragile part 55) between the front part installation part 51 and the rear part installation part 52.
