A fluid sensor for heat exchanger system includes a supporting device such as a tubular hose fitting for mounting the sensor in the system so that heat exchanging fluid circulated in the system comes into contact with the sensor. A window or sight glass is mounted in the supporting device along with corrodible separating means interposed between the sight glass and the heat exchanging fluid. A visual indicator such as a movable flap or a colored ball can be viewed through the sight glass when the separating means is ruptured or broken by corrosion. The viewing of the indicator provides an indication that the heat exchanging fluid has reached a certain corrosive state and requires replacement or treatment. In a preferred embodiment, the separating means is a metal diaphragm spaced from the sight glass. The diaphragm can be made of one corrodible metal while a ring in which the diaphragm is mounted can be made from a different nobler metal so that the diaphragm and ring form an anode and a cathode of a galvanic couple.

Equipment for measuring the axle geometry variables of a road vehicle

An apparatus and method is discloses which utilizes modified wheel aligner heads and which accomplishes measurement of individual wheel toe on a vehicle having a pair of nonsteerable rear wheels and a pair of steerable front wheels. The apparatus and method provides measurement of a steering or a rolling direction for the front and the rear wheel pair as a result of optical measurements taken relating to the orientation of the planes of the wheels to the centerline of the vehicle chassis. Once the steering direction of the front wheels is obtained, individual toe measurements for the front wheels may be made relative to the chassis centerline. Alternatively, once the steering or average rolling direction of the rear wheels is obtained individual toe measurements for the rear wheels may be made relative to the chassis centerline and individual toe measurements for the front wheels may be made relative to the rear wheel rolling direction. Neutral steering of the front wheels may thus be made to coincide directionally with the rear wheel rolling direction. The optical measurements are made with an aimable viewfinder utilizing contrarotating piano prisms which are monitored in rotational position to provide data utilized in calculating wheel pair steering direction and correction factors for the measurements taken by the aligner heads.

The sight-glass intermediate piece fits n a refrigeration pipe having a housing containing a passage with an observation chamber. The latter is sealed by a sight glass and contains an indicator on a support. To form a seal, the glass is pressed against a shaped joint (7) having an annular bead (11) forming the actual sealing surface, and an annular portion (12) extending radially inwards to act as a support for the indicator (13). The glass can be pressed against the joint by a component screwing into the observation chamber, and with an aperture allowing observation of the annular portion.
