A compendium of phase change enthalpies published in 2010 is updated to include the period 1880–2015. Phase change enthalpies including fusion, vaporization, and sublimation enthalpies are included for organic, organometallic, and a few inorganic compounds. Part 1 of this compendium includes organic compounds from C1 to C10. Part 2 of this compendium, to be published separately, will include organic and organometallic compounds from C11 to C192. Sufficient data are presently available to permit thermodynamic cycles to be constructed as an independent means of evaluating the reliability of the data. Temperature adjustments of phase change enthalpies from the temperature of measurement to the standard reference temperature, T = 298.15 K, and a protocol for doing so are briefly discussed.

Heteroatom‐Bridged Calixarenes

The understanding of the catalyst-support interactions has been an important challenge in heterogeneous catalysis since the supports can play a vital role in controlling the properties of the active species and hence their catalytic performance. Herein, a series of isostructural mesoporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on transition metals, lanthanides, and actinides (Zr, Hf, Ce, Th) were investigated as supports for a vanadium catalyst. The vanadium species was coordinated to the oxo groups of the MOF node in a single-ion fashion, as determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, and diffuse reflectance UV-vis spectroscopy. The support effects of these isostructural MOFs were then probed using the aerobic oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol as a model reaction. The turnover frequency was found to be correlated with the electronegativity and oxidation state of the metal cations on the supporting MOF nodes, highlighting an important consideration when designing catalyst supports.

Vanadium Catalyst on Isostructural Transition Metal, Lanthanide, and Actinide Based Metal–Organic Frameworks for Alcohol Oxidation

This paper summarises the main ideas of how to use membranes with built-in catalytic function for performing catalysed gas/liquid reactions. Mass transfer effects on catalyst performance and other decisive factors for the design of industrial gas/liquid and gas/liquid/solid reactors are briefly reviewed. Various concepts for applying catalytic membrane layers in multiphase reactors are introduced and the motivation behind their use is explained. What follows is an assessment of the present achievements in using such concepts for gas/liquid reactions. The results available in literature are critically evaluated, focussing mainly on the field of liquid-phase hydrogenations and oxidations, which constitute the major areas where catalytic membranes have been applied to date to gas/liquid systems. The aim of such treatment is to point out the targets, to elaborate on how far the whole field has developed and what challenges remain, rather than to cover a multitude of specific aspects of the many different studies reported in literature.

Interaction of chromium vapour with benzonitrile and bromobenzene

The problem of the synthesis and study of the properties of thermoreactive oligomers and polymers containing reactive acetylenic groups, leading to the formation of compounds with a three-dimensional structure, are examined. Pathways leading to the formation of oligomers and polymers from acetylenic monomers during their polycyclotrimerisation with retention of the residual acetylenic groups as well as the methods of synthesis of various oligomers and polymers with subsequent introduction of acetylenic groups into the latter are indicated. The possible structural transformations of the acetylenic groups during the hardening process with formation of rigid and cross-linked polymers without the evolution of volatile products are discussed. The bibliography includes 127 references.

Oligomers and Polymers with Reactive Acetylenic Groups

A method has been developed for the directed synthesis of macrocyclic phenylene sulfides with 4–8 phenylene sulfide fragments, by condensation of dihaloaromatic compounds of various types with sodium sulfide or dithiophenate. A combination of this method with high dilution techniques has afforded pure macrocycles in high yields, and the macrocycle with six phenylene sulfide fragments in yields as high as 73%.

Methods of preparing oligo- and poly-phenylenes containing various functional groups are surveyed, together with several field of application. A list of 120 references is included.
