Journal ArticleDOI

Suppression without Inhibition in Visual Cortex

TL;DR: It is shown that suppression can be obtained with masks drifting too rapidly to elicit much of a response in cortex, and that suppression is immune to hyperpolarization of cortical neurons responding to the mask.
Journal ArticleDOI

Temporal properties of surround suppression in cat primary visual cortex.

TL;DR: It was found that prolonged exposure to the surround stimulus decreased the strength of surround suppression, consistent with the hypothesis that suppression originated in cortical responses, and should be reduced by adaptation.
