Journal ArticleDOI

Photon transmission technique for studying multiple phase transitions in a liquid crystal

TL;DR: A photon transmission technique was used to monitor the multiple phase transitions in a 4-butoxyphenyl4(')-declyoxybenzoate (BOPDOB) liquid crystal and it was found that the order parameter rho is proportional to the transmitted photon intensity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scaling of thermal hysteresis at nematic-smectic-A phase transition in a binary mixture.

TL;DR: It has been found that the area A of the hysteresis loops scales with the temperature scanning rate R as A=A(0)+bR(n) with the exponent n equal to 0.692, which is consistent with the (Phi(2))(3) field theoretical model value within the experimental resolution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photon transmission technique for studying swelling and drying kinetics of heterogeneous gels formed with various cross-linker contents

TL;DR: In this paper, a bipartitional polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF)-PMMA macromonomer was synthesized by the termination of living polymerization of tetrahydric acid (THF) initiated by triflic anhydride and subsequent termination by sodium methacrylate.
Journal ArticleDOI

The influence of multi-walled carbon nanotube doping on liquid crystalline phase transitions of a smectogen octylcyanobiphenyl: A high-resolution birefringence study

TL;DR: In this article, high-resolution optical birefringence measurements are reported on the weakly first order nematicisotropic (N-I) and the continuous nematic-smectic A (N -Sm A) phase transitions in smectic liquid crystal 8CB (octylcyanobiphenyl) doped with both pristine multi-walled carbon nanotubes (p-MWCNTs) and carboxyl group functionalized MWCNTs (f-MW CNTs).
Journal ArticleDOI

Smectic A-C-A Liquid Crystal Reentrance: A Photon Transmission Study

TL;DR: In this paper, ultraviolet/visible photon transmission measurements were applied to study liquid crystal phase transitions in the binary BOPDOB-BOPOOB mixture, and a sequence exhibiting a new reentrant, namely isotropic-nematic-smectic A-C-A as temperature is lowered, was identified.
