In a first aspect, the invention relates to a drilling tool set with a plurality of drilling tools having different operative drill diameters. The individual drill of the set comprises a basic body and two bits, viz. a centre bit (3) and a periphery bit (4). These are mounted in pockets in the drill tip. In order to balance the drill, the radial distance difference between the different pairs of bit pockets on two different basic bodies in the drill set differs from the radial distance difference between the centre axis and the periphery pockets in the same. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tip and a milling tool, achieving reduced cutting resistance and long life of a cutting edge. SOLUTION: This tip 1 is shaped substantially like a square plate, and provided with a major cutting edge 6 and a minor cutting edge 5 formed on the ridge parts of a cutting face 2 opposite to a seating surface 2 with a corner edge 7 interposed between them. The major cutting edge 6 has a descending part 6a inclined to gradually decrease in distance to the seating surface 3 at least in the direction of separating from the corner edge 7, and further a first flank 16a of the major cutting edge connected to the major cutting edge 6 has a smaller clearance angle than a second flank 16b of the major cutting edge formed adjacent to the lower area of the first flank 16a of the major cutting edge. In a side view of the tip 1, the first flank 16a of the major cutting edge is formed so that the width in the direction of thickness of the tip 1 is largest at one end intersecting the minor cutting edge 5 and gradually decreased toward the other end intersecting the adjacent corner part. Tip and milling tool

A cutting tool has a compressing segment for imparting a compressive force to produce a non-porous surface layer on a workpiece of porous material. The cutting tool also has a cutting segment to machine the non-porous surface layer for a desired surface finish. Furthermore, a method for machining a workpiece using such a cutting tool may be implemented to produce a non-porous surface layer on a workpiece of porous material and then to produce a desired surface finish.

Cutting tool and method for producing and cutting a non-porous surface layer

A cutting tool capable of the high quality and high efficiency machining of a workpiece material of quenched steel. The cutting tool has a finishing edge (6) first caused to be cut into the workpiece material and a superfinishing edge (7) for superfinishing the material following the finishing edge (6). The superfinishing edge (7) is projected by a predetermined amount (B) from the position of the finishing edge (6) in the direction in which a cut-in amount increases. Further, the superfinishing edge comprises a burnishing part (7a) with a predetermined edge width (L) extending in a tool feeding direction and a wiping part (7b). The superfinishing edge (7) performs the burnishing of a finished surface while removing a machined deteriorated layer of a surface machined with the finishing edge.

Cutting tool for high quality and high efficiency machining and cutting method using the cutting tool

PURPOSE: To make cutting of compound material with deep cutting and superior surface accuracy, by installing the first cutting edge to which honing is done and the second cutting edge without honing along the feeding direction, and making the tip of the latter project farther than the tip of the former in cutting direction. CONSTITUTION: As for a chip 10 its upper face 12 is made rake face, a cutting edge 13 is formed on each ridge line portion, and the first cutting edge 15 and the second cutting edge 16 are formed at a corner portion 14 along the feeding direction F. As honing is done to the cutting edge 15 and not done to the cutting edge 16, it is so constituted that the tip of the cutting edge 16 projects farther than the tip of the cutting edge 15 in cutting direction within a range X from 0.01 to 0.1mm. According to feeding of the chip 10, rough cutting is made first by the cutting edge 15 to which honing is being done and which is superior in strength, and subsequently finish cutting is made by the cutting edge 16 which is superior in deposition property, for example even in case of deep cutting of compound material consisting of cast iron and aluminium chipping does not occur to the cutting edge 16.
