An energy absorbing barrier for dissipating kinetic energy upon impact by a moving vehicle. The barrier comprises walls defining a container closed except for a fill opening to admit water. Various configurations of side walls are disclosed. The side walls are resiliently deformable to return to their original shape after being struck, the resilience of the walls and their deformability tending to form a capture region adjacent the vehicle tire which tends to slow the tire and prevent it from climbing and vaulting the barrier. In one embodiment the walls include longitudinally extending, vertically spaced apart traction spoiler channels to reduce the area of contact between the barrier and the tires of a vehicle. Other embodiments include fittings for end coupling of a barrier to like barriers, the fittings permitting adjacent barriers to be located at different heights to accommodate gradual changes in terrain elevation. Other fittings are shown which enable arrangement of end coupled barriers in curvilinear and other configurations.

Energy absorbing barrier

A modular construction road barrier suitable to gradually absorb the impact energy of vehicles has flexible vessels for pneumatically absorbing the energy deriving from an impact, preferably in combination with a structure which absorbs friction controlled by the mutual sliding of the barrier elements. The friction absorbing structure can also be provided independently from the flexible vessels, thereby providing a gradually absorption of the vehicle impact energy. The barrier is moreover so constructed as to be easily located and recovered upon impact.

Disclosed herein is a method of producing a phosphor screen of color picture tube wherein a light absorbing material is applied onto the inner surface of a panel, a shadow mask is provided, the surface of film of the light absorbing material is scanned and irradiated with a laser beam via the shadow mask so that portions of the light absorbing material irradiated with the laser beam are heated and burned, thereby to form a black matrix. According to this method, the number of steps for forming the black matrix is decreased, and the quality and yield of the phosphor screen are increased.

Each unit comprises a brittle plastic casing 8 having a front wall 5, two side walls 6a, 6b, a top with filling holes 13 but no base and no rear wall. The units positioned at the front contain containers filled with a dispersable material. The units positioned at the rear contain blocks of a honeycomb material. One application is the construction of safety devices placed in front of obstacles at the side of a road.

The reducer has two vertical parallel walls (1) which rest on the ground on transverse bed plates. These walls can slide on the ground guided by cables (10) which pass perpendicularly through them and held between anchoring points (11) and an end buffer (5). Pneumatic crushing modules (2), located between the walls, have a supple tubular casing whose ends are each fixed to end webs (4). The walls and the crushing modules are surrounded by runners (3) able to slide longitudinally one on the other by means of bolts (30) introduced and tightened in longitudinal slots (31) in the runners.
