The invention is a system for providing virtual connections through an ATM interworking multiplexer on a call-by-call basis. A signaling processor receives signaling for a call and selects the virtual connection for the call. The signaling processor generates new signaling that identifies the selection and transfers the new signaling to the ATM interworking multiplexer that accepted the access connection for the call. The multiplexer converts user information from the access connection into ATM cells for transmission over the virtual connection in accord with the new signaling.

Broadband telecommunications system

The present invention includes a method, system, and apparatus for providing communication control. The invention includes a method in which signaling is processed externally to a switch before it is applied by the network elements. The processor is able to select network characteristics and signal the network elements based the selections. A network employing the processing method is also included, as well as a signaling system that employs the processing method.

Method, system and apparatus for telecommunications control

The invention includes a system for processing telecommunications signaling. Signaling for a call is received into a signaling processor. The signaling processor processes the call and generates new signaling incorporating the processing. The new signaling is transferred to network elements as appropriate. The signaling processor is not coupled to a switch matrix and only communicates with the network elements over signaling links.

System for managing telecommunications

A system and method provide enhanced services for a call that is transported from a communication device through an asynchronous transfer mode system. The call has user communications in asynchronous transfer mode cells and call signaling. A signaling processor receives the call signaling and processes the call signaling to determine a connection to a service platform. The signaling processor transports a processor control message designating the selected connection. An asynchronous transfer mode interworking unit receives the user communications from the communication device and the processor control message from the signaling processor. The asynchronous transfer mode interworking unit converts the user communications from the asynchronous transfer mode cells to a format compatible with the service platform and dynamically transports the user communications to the service platform in real time. The service platform processes the user communications. The reverse process can also take place with the dynamic transfer, in real time, of the processed user communications back to the communication device in asynchronous transfer mode cells that identify the connection to the communication device.

System and method for providing enhanced services for a telecommunication call

The invention is a system for interfacing a GR-303 system with a broadband system. The broadband system can be an ATM system. The invention can process the GR-303 signaling to select ATM connections and then interwork the GR-303 connections with the selected ATM connections. The invention can interwork GR-303 signaling and SS7 signaling. The invention can also process SS7 signaling to select GR-303 connections and then interwork ATM connections with the selected GR-303 connections.

Broadband telecommunications system interface

A signaling functional model (separated model) that assumes the functional separation of call control (CC) and bearer control (BC) must be considered for B-ISDN because B-ISDN deals with various levels of service quality, various speeds, and various connection configurations. This paper provides the basic structure of the forementioned separated model and the functions of the CC and BC based on actual B-ISDN service specifications. Also, system design guidelines are proposed for connection-type bandwidth selection and interworking between broadband ISDN and narrowband ISDN, which are key issues in the study of B-ISDN signaling protocol.

Advanced signaling protocol for broadband ISDN services

ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) system transfers and switches the information from various media such as voice, data, and video in a unified way. Since media with severe requirements for high-speed transfer or real-time processing must be handled, there is no flow control function during communication. As a result, a certain bandwidth must be assigned to each call to ensure service quality.



This paper considers first the case where the same bandwidth is shared by several classes with different service requirements. The “flexible processing” system is proposed as a priority processing method where the qualities of other classes are not deteriorated even if there arises an unexpected traffic flow of a particular class. For bandwidth assignment to each call in the same class, the “volume declaration” method is proposed, wherein the user declares the maximum information content (= volume) that can be transferred in the specified time, in addition to the maximum information transfer rate. It is shown that the service quality of the call can be insured by this method.



Then we examine the case in which physically distributed bandwidths are utilized by more than one service quality class, and it is shown that the results of past studies on the multirate circuit switching can be applied, by assuming the forementioned volume declaration method.

Bandwidth assignment control in ATM system

In tandem with a growing information society, personal communication service expansion is expected. Commercial service using a personal handy phone system (PHS) for speech communication started in July 1995. Because the demand for data communication service is on the rise, the need for a realization method is imperative. This paper studies protocol and network control technology with an eye on offering economical personal radio data communication service and clarifies the following.



(1) To share equipment with a personal radio speech service, it is desirable for the interface between a radio base station and a network to be based on I interface. Authentication processing by an out-channel is better, and sharing the equipment with personal radio speech communication will greatly reduce future costs.



(2) After introduction of personal radio packet communication service, it is suitable for location registration, including that of speech terminals, to be done by packet.



(3) To achieve both economy and wide applicability, a scheme in which service control node accessing at terminating exchange nodes is unnecessary is employed for basic call.



(4) With the introduction of personal radio packet communication service, terminal information, such as transfer mode, is managed at service control nodes and useless connection processing is avoided.

Protocol and network control technology for personal mobile data communication

Learning routing is introduced to large-scale communication network to compensate the lack of a priori information on the network behavior. Learning routing consists of learning automaton as a learning controller placed at each network node. This learning automaton makes decision on routes for packets which are the basic unit of data to be transmitted through the network. Using learning automaton we propose two routing methods, LRI and LRI, which are basically reinforcement methods for the learning automaton. The effectiveness of these proposed methods is shown by means of simulation on a concrete network topology.
