High-gloss multilayer effect pigments having a chromatic interference color and a narrow size distribution, and method for the production thereof

The invention relates to multilayer effect pigments based on laminar transparent substrates having an optically effective coating which comprises at least a) a non-absorbing high-refractive layer A having a refractive index n ≥ 1.8, b) a low-refractive layer B having a refractive index n 150 nm, c) an absorbing high-refractive layer C having a refractive index n ≥ 1.8, and d) an optional outer protective layer D. Said multilayer effect pigments have a cumulative frequency distribution of the volume-averaged size distribution function having the reference numbers D10, D50, D90 and a span ΔD ranging from 0.7 to 1.4, the span ΔD being calculated according to formula ΔD = (D90 - D10)/D50. The invention further relates to a method for producing said multilayer pigments and to the use thereof.

High-gloss multilayer effect pigments having a narrow size distribution, and method for the production thereof

The bright pigment of the present invention includes flaky particles and a metal oxide layer coating at least a part of the surface of each flaky particle. The bright pigment or the flaky particles of the present invention have a particle size distribution in which the particle size at 99% of the cumulative volume from the smaller particle size is 48 μm or less, and the maximum particle size is 62 μm or less. The flaky particles are made of a material having a refractive index in the range of 1.4 to 1.8. The flaky particles have a thickness distribution in which the frequency of the particles having a thickness in the range of 0.8 μm to 1.9 μm is 90% or more by volume, or the frequency of the particles having a thickness in the range of 0.01 μm to 0.35 μm is 90% or more by volume.

Bright pigment, and bright coating composition and automotive body coating each containing the same

The bright pigment of the present invention contains a scaly substrate 10 and an outermost coating 20 that covers the scaly substrate 10 , that is provided as an outermost layer, and that contains at least one member selected from the group consisting of hydroxyapatite and hydrocalumite. The bright pigment of the present invention may be further provided with an interference color coating that is disposed more towards the center than the outermost coating and that contains at least one metal oxide selected from the group consisting of titanium oxide and iron oxide.
