Purpose – The paper aims to present a conceptual model that better defines critical success factors to ERP implementation organized with the technology, organization and environment (TOE) framework. Successful ERP implementation: an integrative model

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to consolidate the critical success factors (CSFs) as published in enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation case studies. The authors perform the analysis and propose the final CSFs based on the reported ERP implementation process stages. Design/methodology/approach – The paper follows the eight category coding steps proposed by Carley (1993) and utilizes only ERP implementation case studies to identify a distinct set of critical success factors. The 37 case studies used in this paper provide a reasonable sample from different countries and contexts. Two methodologies were followed, one for the literature review process and the other for the analysis and synthesis. Extant literature regarding factors essential for successful information technologies (IT) implementation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) does not significantly address readiness factors for IT implementation in an Indian context. This exploratory research develops and tests a framework to analyse the antecedents to organisational preparedness for adoption of IT infrastructure in SMEs.,This exploratory research adopts a mixed-method approach to test the technology, organization and environment (TOE) framework. In-depth interviews with SME owners are conducted to develop the case study, and the measures obtained are tested through a survey at a small and medium business industrial cluster in Southern India in SMEs.,The case study indicates SME owners’ drive to initiate technology preparedness for organisational sustainability is a key factor, a measure not seen during the literature review. An empirical study tests the measures. Pressure from customers, owner’s age, sales of SME, owner’s attitude towards IT and owner’s knowledge of IT was confirmed, which indicates organisational factors have more impact compared to technological and environmental factors.,The academic scope of this research paper can be extended to contexts such as readiness in IT infrastructure for digital transformation.,The validated research framework can be used by organisation stakeholders and SME IT practitioners for successful IT adoption.,SMEs contribute significantly to gross domestic product (GDP) and provide employment opportunities. Hence, this research provides a tested model that SMEs owners/managers can adopt as a framework to augment competitiveness to implement IT.,The study adopts a mixed-method research design and is, perhaps, a first in the Indian context to explore variables through case study and validate identified measures through an empirical study. Readiness factors for information technology adoption in SMEs: testing an exploratory model in an Indian context

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems adoptions require substantial resources and investments. The majority of businesses around the globe can be considered to be small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Thus, SMEs are seen to be typical companies that are the cornerstone of most economies. Compared with large enterprises, an SME-context contains several characteristics, and scarcity of resources is among the top of them. For SMEs, unplanned costs escalation could pose a serious threat to their stability and survival in the market. Frequently, ERP projects have crossed their estimated budgets and schedules. Researchers and practitioners state that a prevailing number of ERP adoption projects fail due to inaccurate or to too optimistic budgets/schedules. In addition, many organizations face difficulties in identifying the potential cost factors that could occur during their ERP adoption lifecycle. While focusing on the SMEcontext, this research attempts to identify potential costs that could occur in ERP adoptions. The research method employed in this study targeted diverse stakeholders and experts involved in ERP projects in Egypt. This research provides a list of cost factors and their classifications that could aid adopting organizations to better estimate their needed ERP project budgets. In particular, this research explores the direct and indirect cost factors that occur in ERP adoptions in Egyptian SMEs. Also, this study investigates the influence of some SME-specific contextual factors on costs. Moreover, the paper provides a ranking of cost factors according to their impact on total adoption costs.

ERP adoption cost factors identification and classification: a study in SMEs

The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Adoption by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has invoked immense interest in the research community. Though ERP is believed as a key technology enabler and an effective management tool for organizations, the SMEs are faced with cost, resource and time limitations to adopt ERP into their business. Hence it is important to identify certain critical success factors that could be referred by SMEs to gain confidence in adopting ERP. The existing literature was explored and thirty Critical Success Factors (CSFs were identified for SMEs. The ERP adoption journey involves five sequential decision stages/phases namely planning, acquisition, implementation, usage and percolation and extension. We propose a framework to prioritize and rank CSFs using analytical hierarchy process (AHP) one of the widely accepted multi-criteria decision making method (MCDM).

A comparative study on the conceptual and contextual perception about csf for erp adoption in the smes

Based on various researches on the ERP implementation by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) this paper has identified 5 decision areas which have a strategic impact on the success of ERP adoption by the SMEs. These decision areas are planning, acquisition, implementation, usage and percolation and extension. Planning decision includes analyzing the intra and inter-organizational factors influencing adoption, and the proprietor’s commitment and involvement. The Acquisition decision will address issues on identification, scrutiny, selection and finalization of ERP. The user acceptance and the perceived benefits of ERP for SMEs will be studied in the Usage and Percolation Decision. Finally, extension decision will research on the need for process alignment of SMEs to fit into the highly computerized business processes of the large-scale businesses.The Critical Success Factors (CSFs) in each of these five decision areas is identified and explained in relevance to the SMEs in this paper. The outcome of this paper would lay a foundation for evolving a framework for the SMEs to refer during their ERP Adoption process.
