Abstract The current day target for material scientists and researchers is developing a wholesome material to satisfy the parameters such as durability, manufacturability, low cost, and lightweight. Extensive research studies are ongoing on the possible application of polymer matrix composites in engineering and technology, since these materials have an edge over conventional materials in terms of performance. Hybridization of reinforcements is considered to be a better option to enhance the efficiency and performance of composite materials. Accordingly, research studies focus on the surface treatment of natural fibers and the addition of nanofillers (natural or synthetic) by industry and academia to take the properties and application of composites to the next level. This review purely focuses on the influence of fillers on the properties of composites along with the probable application of filler-based polymer composites.

Influence of filler material on properties of fiber-reinforced polymer composites: A review

This review provides a report on recent advances in the field of chitosan (CTS) and silk fibroin (SF) biopolymer blends as new biomaterials. Chitosan and silk fibroin are widely used to obtain biomaterials. However, the materials based on the blends of these two biopolymers have not been summarized in a review paper yet. As these materials can attract both academic and industrial attention, we propose this review paper to showcase the latest achievements in this area. In this review, the latest literature regarding the preparation and properties of chitosan and silk fibroin and their blends has been reviewed.

Chitosan/Silk Fibroin Materials for Biomedical Applications—A Review

Stable emulsion is the most difficult of all forms of oily wastewater to treat. Membrane separation technology has more advantages in solving related problems because of its high selectivity. The existence of hydroxyapatite containing more hydrophilic groups makes the membrane materials with high hydrophilicity obtained. In this work, hydroxyapatite was modified by strong adsorption of dopamine to prepare modified nanoparticles with good compatibility, which were more easily dispersed in the solution. Then the modified hydroxyapatite was introduced into the casting solution to avoid agglomeration and uneven distribution. The phase separation process was then completed by reverse thermal separation (RTIPS). After water flux and oil-water separation tests, high permeability (1515.46 L/m 2 h, 14 times higher than the raw membranes) and high selectivity (99.80% and 99.92%) were obtained. At the same time, the membrane materials with the optimal conditions also achieved better performance in the cycle test. In addition, the bond between materials was improved due to the presence of hydroxyapatite, which ultimately makes the membrane materials more ductile and reduces the possibility of breakage. • The weak dispersion of hydroxyapatite was improved by dopamine. • The membrane properties were improved by RTIPS method. • It provides more attachment points for modified particles. • Hydroxyapatite was rarely used in the modification of oil-water separation membrane.
