The reduction of auxiliaries power demand: The challenge for electromobility in public transportation

One of the factors influencing the level of traffic noise is the type of vehicles moving on the roads. The paper presents comprehensive research, as conducted by the authors, which sought to assess the traffic noise level generated by different means of transport. A comparison is made between the noise generated by personal cars, a truck and different types of motorcycle. The maximum sound level and the equivalent sound level emitted by the investigated means of transport were analysed in the entire frequency band and in the individual 1/3 octave bands. Based on the research, conclusions have been formulated regarding the influence of the different types of means of transport and their speeds on traffic noise near a road, along with possible ways to reduce its level.

Analysis of the influence of different means of transport on the level of traffic noise

Paper presents the result of test exploitation supercapacitor energy bank in Gdynia trolleybus system. In the first part of the article the basics of the regenerative breaking are presented and the construction and control strategy of the supercapacitor bank are described. The area of research and method of measurement are explained. In the second part of paper the results of tests and measurements are described. Emphasis was placed on the comparison of different methods of using regenerative braking energy. In the last part of the article conclusions are presented.

Reducing of energy consumption in public transport — Results of experimental exploitation of super capacitor energy bank in Gdynia trolleybus system

Selection of drive's rated power influences not only vehicle's dynamics, but also its energy efficiency. Mentioned above approach requires a multiphysical model, which covers both mechanical and electrical phenomena. This paper discusses how selection of traction drive's rated power influences vehicle energy consumption on example of a trolleybus. A complex mathematical model was developed in Matlab/Simulink to describe the multiphisical dependencies. Several driving scenarios were proposed to compare the energy consumption between trolleybuses equipped with medium- and high-power electric drive in different conditions. Numerical investigations reveal the possibility of gaining substantial energy savings using of the high-power drive.

How to choose drive's rated power in electrified urban transport?

This paper examines the energy consumption in electric drives for vertical transport considering the system of a hoist machine and a variable speed drive. Most common solution for the modern elevator drives is a system consists of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor as hoisting machine and three phase Variable Voltage Variable Frequency converter with intermediate DC link as energy converter. Energy consumption measurements on system like this is conducted and elaborated. Presented are both, the necessity of the variable speed drives in dynamic regimes for reducing electrical losses well as their contribution in increasing of the harmonics and distortion energy. The consumption of the active reactive and the distortion energy of the complete system are evaluated.

Analysis of electrical energy consumption in elevator drives

Motor current measurement techniques as well as predictive control algorithms for electric drives rely on an assumption of linear motor currents changes resulting from constant inverter output voltages. Recent research has reported that this assumption does not hold in motors with short electrical time constant, and in drives whose rotor position advances substantially during a control period. This paper proposes a simulation model that reflects the non-linearity of currents waveforms. The hybrid model, designed in Matlab/Simulink, consists of both continuous- and discrete-time subsystems. Operation of the inverter can be reproduced in either a simplified manner — by reflecting only the fundamental voltage component, or in detail — by modeling the pulse-width-modulated motor voltages. The proposed model is validated with respect to reproducing the non-linearity of currents waveforms by comparison with a laboratory high-speed PMSM drive.
