Damages caused by an intraocular foreign body (IOFB) to the visual system, mainly the retina, mostly occur during certain occupational activities. Turners are among the laborers who are mostly exposed to IOFB. The aim of the present work is to survey the effect of an IOFB on the visual system, mainly the retina. Fifty laborers of a turner factory who were exposed to IOFB were selected. Electroretinography (ERG) was recorded in all the laborers. Beside these workers, 50 laborers with no incidence of IOFB were also selected. They were also tested using ERG. The results obtained in the two groups were compared together to search for the possible changes in the two groups. The ERG patterns of the case groups were found to be changed in comparison to the control group. The changes were observed in the area under the b-wave of the ERG pattern in the early stage of damage and in the late stages, the latency and amplitude of the ERG b-wave were also affected. Finally, from the result of the present study, one can conclude that ERG is a suitable technique to search for the retinal changes in the laborers exposed to IOFB.

Visual Evoked Potential Findings in Road Drilling Machine laborers. Abstract Purpose: Road drilling machine laborers are exposed to heavy vibration. Vibration may affect different organs of body. The aim of present work is to look for possible effect of vibration on visual pathway of these subjects using visual evoked potential. Patients Twelve Conclusion : Occupational vibration in road drilling machine might have adverse effect on visual system mainly visual pathway causing increased latency of VEP, P100 Peak measured using visual evoked potentials.

Visual Evoked Potential Findings in Road Drilling Machine laborers

Nowadays, in many countries, stress is becoming a problem that increasingly affects the health of people. Suffering stress continuously can lead to serious behavioral disorders such as anxiety or depression. Every person, in his daily routine, can face many factors which can contribute to increase his stress level. This paper describes a flexible and distributed model to monitor environmental variables associated with stress, which provides adaptability to any environment in an agile way. This model was designed to transform stress environmental variables in value added information (key stress indicator) and to provide it to external systems, in both proactive and reactive mode. Thus, this value-added information will assist organizations and users in a personalized way helping in the detection and prevention of acute stress cases. Our proposed model is supported by an architecture that achieves the features above mentioned, in addition to interoperability, robustness, scalability, autonomy, efficient, low cost and consumption, and information availability in real time. Finally, a prototype of the system was implemented, allowing the validation of the proposal in different environments at the University of Alicante.

A Distributed Model for Stressors Monitoring Based on Environmental Smart Sensors.

Aim: Hand-arm vibration is vibration transmitted from a work process into worker’s hands and arms. Road drilling machine laborers are exposed to heavy hand-arm vibration. Vibration may affect visual system. Retina is a part of visual system to be taken into consideration in this connection. The aim of present research is to look for possible effect of handarm vibration on human retina using electroretinography. Method: Twelve male road drilling machine laborers (24 eyes) were selected for the purpose of present study. The age range of the laborers was between 2535 years. They had normal visual acuity. The laborers were tested for electroretinography (ERG). Amplitude (μv) and latency (m sec) of ERG, b peak were recorded for all laborers and 12 age, sex and visual acuity matched control laborers not exposed to any vibration. J Opthalmol Res 2022; 5 (2): 81-85 DOI: 10.26502/fjor.2644-00240061 Journal of Opthalmology and Research Volume 5, Issue 2 82 Result: The mean age was 30.67 ± 3.47 and 30.58±3.45 in the case and control groups respectively. The mean BCVA was 10/10 in both groups. The mean amplitude was 101.36 ± 14.29 and 109.76 ± 8.53 and in case of latency it was 43.52 ± 1.55 and 43.28 ± 1.4 in case and control groups respectively. The difference in case of amplitude of ERG, b wave was statistically significant ( p ˂ 0.05 ) whereas the difference in case of ERG, b wave latency was not statistically significant ( p = 0.612 ). Conclusion: Occupational hand-arm vibration in road drilling machine operators might have adverse effect on human retina which can be diagnosed by amplitude of ERG, b peak.

Effect of Hand-Arm Vibration on Retina of Road Drilling Machine Laborers Measured by Electroretinography

Objectives: This study sought to assess the level of stress in general dentists in the 2nd district of Tehran city in 2014 to find out the stressors and suggest strategies to overcome them.Methods: This descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted on 130 general dentists from the 2nd district of Tehran city selected via weighted randomization. Level of stress was assessed using Coudron stress questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 and Spearman’s correlation coefficient, Chi square test and ordinal logistic regression tests. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: All types of stress (occupational, life health, personal life and personality) were significantly correlated. Normal life health stress (compared to high stress) decreased occupational stress to approximately one third. Level of occupational stress was 2.5 times lower in subjects with normal level of stress in their personal life and 2 times lower in subjects with normal personality stress. Most dentists, irrespective of gender and marital status had high levels of occupational stress. Only 11.27% of those with a work experience of less than 10 years had normal life health stress. Personal life stress was significantly correlated with age, work place, and work experience (P<0.05).Conclusion: Most dentists, irrespective of gender (male: 67.3%, female: 73%) and marital status (married: 66.3%, single: 74.2%) had high levels of occupational stress. The effects of age, gender, marital status, work place and work experience were variable on occupational, life health, personal life and personality stresses and depended on the type of stress assessed.

Assessment of Stress in General Dentists in Tehran City

Certain inevitable physical factors in working environment can damage the workers in related fields. Sea sickness and white finger due to ship movement and vibration respectively are two examples in this regard. Humidity in working area can also bring discomfort of the workers in humid area. Cheese processing factories are such places where there is high humidity in the working space.

Mental stress is a psychological complication which can arise due to some physical factors in certain occupational activities, therefore an attempt was made to have a search on mental stress in the laborers working in a cheese factory in Orumieheh, a city in north of Iran, with a cold climate throughout the year.

For the purpose of the present study, a cheese processing factory with 100 workers was selected. The workers were divided in to two groups. One group was exposed to high humidity and the other exposed to normal humidity level. A standard questionnaire was given to two groups to check the mental stress.

The results obtained from both groups were compared.. The result showed severe mental stress in workers exposed to high humidity whereas moderate stress level in other workers.

The conclusion of the present work is a proof of the adverse effect of humidity in working environments which reflect in mental stress in workers which will be discussed in detail in full paper.
