SAHA induces apoptosis in hepatoma cells and synergistically interacts with the proteasome inhibitor Bortezomib
Sonia Emanuele,Marianna Lauricella,Daniela Carlisi,B. Vassallo,Antonella D'Anneo,P. Di Fazio,Renza Vento,Giovanni Tesoriere +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the HDAC inhibitor suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid stimulated apoptosis in hepatoma cells and exerted a synergistic apoptotic effect when combined with bortezomib, and the potential application of the SAHA/bortzomib combination in clinical trials for liver cancer is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multifaceted Health Benefits of Mangifera indica L. (Mango): The Inestimable Value of Orchards Recently Planted in Sicilian Rural Areas
TL;DR: This review provides an overview of the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties of mango, a fruit that should be included in everyone’s diet for its multifaceted biochemical actions and health-enhancing properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
Parthenolide generates reactive oxygen species and autophagy in MDA-MB231 cells. A soluble parthenolide analogue inhibits tumour growth and metastasis in a xenograft model of breast cancer.
Antonella D'Anneo,Daniela Carlisi,Marianna Lauricella,Roberto Puleio,Roberta Martinez,S. Di Bella,P. Di Marco,Sonia Emanuele,R Di Fiore,Annalisa Guercio,Renza Vento,Renza Vento,Giovanni Tesoriere,Giovanni Tesoriere +13 more
TL;DR: The administration of DMAPT in nude mice bearing xenografts of MDA-MB231 cells resulted in a significant inhibition of tumour growth, an increment of animal survival and a marked reduction of the lung area invaded by metastasis, suggesting a possible use of parthenolide for the treatment of TNBCs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histone deacetylase inhibitors: Apoptotic effects and clinical implications (Review)
TL;DR: Based on the ability of HDACIs to regulate many signaling pathways, co-treatment of these compounds with molecular targeted drugs is a promising strategy against many types of tumors.
Journal Article
The apoptotic effects and synergistic interaction of sodium butyrate and MG132 in human retinoblastoma Y79 cells.
Michela Giuliano,Marianna Lauricella,Giuseppe Calvaruso,Maria Carabillò,Sonia Emanuele,Renza Vento,Giovanni Tesoriere +6 more
TL;DR: The results support the conclusion that MG132 potentiates the apoptotic effect of sodium butyrate by suppressing its stimulatory effect on 26S proteasome activity.
