An interactive video display system. A display screen is for displaying a visual image for presentation to a user. A camera is for detecting an object in an interactive area located in front of the display screen, the camera operable to capture three-dimensional information about the object. A computer system is for directing the display screen to change the visual image in response to the object.

Interactive video display system

A mobile terminal and a control method thereof, which can obtain an image, are provided. A mobile terminal (100) includes a camera unit (121), a pictogram extraction unit (182) and a controller (180). The camera unit (121) obtains image information corresponding to at least one of a still image and a moving image. The pictogram extraction unit (182) extracts at least one pictogram from the obtained image information. The controller (180) detects information related to the extracted pictogram, and displays the detected information to be overlapped with the obtained image information. In the mobile terminal, the controller (180) includes, as the detected information, at least one of previously recorded information and currently searched information related to the extracted pictogram.

A self-contained interactive video display system. A projector projects a visual image onto a screen for displaying the visual image, wherein the projector projects the visual image onto a back side of the screen for presentation to a user on a front side of the screen. An illuminator illuminates an object near the front side of the screen. A camera detects interaction of an illuminated object with the visual image, wherein the screen is at least partially transparent to light detectable to the camera, allowing the camera to detect the illuminated object through the screen. A computer system directs the projector to change the visual image in response to the interaction.

Self-contained interactive video display system

An interactive directed beam system is provided. In one implementation, the system includes a projector, a computer and a camera. The camera is configured to view and capture information in an interactive area. The captured information may take various forms, such as, an image and/or audio data. The captured information is based on actions taken by an object, such as, a person within the interactive area. Such actions include, for example, natural movements of the person and interactions between the person and an image projected by the projector. The captured information from the camera is then sent to the computer for processing. The computer performs one or more processes to extract certain information, such as, the relative location of the person within the interactive area for use in controlling the projector. Based on the results generated by the processes, the computer directs the projector to adjust the projected image accordingly. The projected image can move anywhere within the confines of the interactive area.

A virtual reality environment creation, modification and delivery system stores information representing the virtual reality environment in a database where portions of it may be created, modified or delivered without affecting other portions. The database may be accessed, for example, over a network such as a wide area network, to allow database records to be individually updated without affecting other records in the database. In this manner, it is not necessary to read and store an entire virtual reality environment file in order to make changes to it. In addition, characteristics of target machines dictate what version the database reads out, thus to provide a version compatible with the target machine.

3D virtual environment creation management and delivery system

Diamond Park is a social virtual reality system in which multiple geographically separated users can speak to each other and participate in joint activities. The central theme of the park is cycling. Human visitors to the park are represented by 3D animated avatars and can explore a square mile of 3D terrain. In addition to human visitors, the park hosts a number of computer simulations, including tour buses and autonomous animated figures. Diamond Park is implemented using a software platform called Spline, which makes it easy to build virtual worlds where multiple people interact with each other and with computer simulations in a 3D visual and audio environment. Spline performs all the processing necessary to maintain a distributed, modifiable, and extendable model of a virtual world that is shared between the participants.
