A network of collection, charging and distribution machines collect, charge and distribute portable electrical energy storage devices (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors or ultracapacitors). To charge, the machines employ electrical current from an external source, such as the electrical grid or an electrical service of an installation location. By default, each portable electrical energy storage device is disabled from accepting a charge unless it receives authentication information from an authorized collection, charging and distribution machine, other authorized charging device, or other authorized device that transmits the authentication credentials. Also, by default, each portable electrical energy storage device is disabled from releasing energy unless it receives authentication information from an external device to which it will provide power, such as a vehicle or other authorization device.

Apparatus, method and article for authentication, security and control of power storage devices, such as batteries

In order to achieve lower fuel consumption and less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, we need higher efficiency vehicles with improved performance. Electrification is the most promising solution to enable a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation system. Electrified transportation vision includes utilizing more electrical energy to power traction and nontraction loads in the vehicle. In electrified powertrain applications, the efficiency of the electrical path, and the power and energy density of the components play important roles to improve the electric range of the vehicle to run the engine close to its peak efficiency point and to maintain lower energy consumption with less emissions. In general, the electrified powertrain architecture, design and control of the powertrain components, and software development are coupled to facilitate an efficient, high-performance, and reliable powertrain. In this paper, enabling technologies and solutions for the electrified transportation are discussed in terms of power electronics, electric machines, electrified powertrain architectures, energy storage systems (ESSs), and controls and software.

Making the Case for Electrified Transportation

A method for managing the charging of an electric vehicle. The method includes receiving a request for a charge transfer for an electric vehicle over a network link between an electric vehicle charging station and a cloud server. The network link has a mobile device disposed between the electrical vehicle charging station and the cloud server for facilitating communication between the charging station and the cloud server.

Methods and apparatuses for charging of electric vehicles

Systems, methods, and apparatus are disclosed for charging a vehicle in a wireless power transfer system. In one aspect, a method of charging a vehicle is provided, including determining distances between the vehicle and each of a plurality of charging stations. The method further includes selectively communicating, based on the distances, with a first charging station of the plurality of charging stations.

This thesis investigates different bidirectional and isolated DC–DC converters with a high voltage port (ranging from 240 V to 450 V), a low voltage port (11V to 16 V), and a rated power of 2 kW. The work starts with an overview on different bidirectional DC–DC converter topologies and investigates their applicability with respect to the given specifications (Chapter 2). Based on the findings of Chapter 2, the singlephase Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter topology is considered most promising regarding the achievable converter efficiency and the achievable power density. Moreover, due to the wide input and output voltage ranges, two-stage DC–DC converters, i.e. the series connection of an isolated DC–DC converter and a DC–DC converter without galvanic isolation, are expected to facilitate an improved converter efficiency. The subsequent Chapters discuss the single-phase DAB converter in detail. • Chapter 3 explains the working principle of the DAB converter based on 3 different simplified converter models. This includes a lossless model of the DAB, which facilitates basic analytical investigations and allows for a simplified synthesis of optimal modulation schemes (calculated with respect to minimum transformer RMS current). Moreover, two different refinements of the electric DAB converter model are included in order to consider the impacts of the conduction losses and the magnetizing current on the transformer currents. • Chapter 4 discusses a detailed loss model of the DAB, needed in order to parameterize the models developed in Chapter 3 and to develop the efficiency optimized modulation presented in Chapter 5. This loss model is used to calculate the losses in the most relevant converter components. • Chapter 5 presents a systematic investigation of efficiency improvements achievable for the given DAB converter, obtained with the use of optimized modulation schemes. Finally, with the suboptimal modulation schemes discussed in Section 5.2.2, converter operation close to its maximum possible efficiency is achieved (Figure 5.28).

Modeling and optimization of bidirectional dual active bridge DC-DC converter topologies

A method for reserving a vehicle charging station includes receiving a desired destination, and automatically verifying the availability of a designated station at an expected arrival time. The method further includes reserving the designated station when the designated station is available at the expected arrival time, and transmitting an electronic token to the client device. The token confirms the reservation and uniquely identifies the vehicle. A system for reserving the station includes a server in communication with the station, and with a client device configured for communicating a desired destination to the server. The server automatically verifies the availability of the designated charging station at an expected arrival time at the desired destination, reserves the designated station when it is available at the expected arrival time, and then generates and transmits the token to the client device.

A belt alternator starter (BAS) system for a hybrid vehicle may include a first pulley, a first belt, a motor generator unit (MGU), a second pulley, a second belt, and a first clutch. The first belt encircles the first pulley and a crankshaft pulley of an internal combustion engine. The MGU includes the second pulley and functions as an electric motor when the engine is started and as a generator for charging a battery when the engine is running. The second belt encircles the second pulley and at least one drive pulley of an accessory unit. The first clutch couples/decouples the crankshaft pulley to/from the second pulley depending on operation of the engine.

A method is provided for generating projected vehicle energy consumption information for a second vehicle using statistical information describing a driving history of a driver of a first vehicle. Statistical information is determined from collected vehicle performance values while the driver operates the first vehicle, and is archived in at least one memory location. The archived statistical information is correlated with a vehicle specification describing a performance capability of the second vehicle. A message is processed that includes the projected vehicle energy consumption information for the second vehicle. A vehicle is provided for generating the projected vehicle energy consumption information, and includes at least one memory location, sensors for measuring vehicle performance values of the vehicle describing a driver history of the first vehicle, and a controller adapted for automatically determining the statistical information. A controller is also provided adapted for executing the method.
