A cardiac-valve prosthesis which can be used, for example, as a valve for percutaneous implantation. The prosthesis includes an armature for anchorage of the valve prosthesis in the implantation site. The armature defines a lumen for passage of the blood flow and supports a set of prosthetic valve leaflets, which, under the action of the blood flow, are able to move into a radially divaricated condition to enable the flow of the blood through the lumen in a first direction and a radially contracted condition, in which the valve leaflets co-operate with one another and block the flow of the blood through the prosthesis in the opposite direction. The armature includes, in one embodiment, two annular elements connected by anchor members having the capacity of projecting radially with respect to the prosthesis, and support members for the set of leaflets, the support members being carried by at least one of the annular elements so as to leave substantially disengaged the aforesaid lumen for passage of the blood.

Cardiac valve prosthesis

A cardiac-valve prosthesis is adapted for percutaneous implantation. The prosthesis includes an armature adapted for deployment in a radially expanded implantation position, the armature including a support portion and an anchor portion, which are substantially axially coextensive with respect to one another. A set of leaflets is coupled to the support portion. The leaflets can be deployed with the armature in the implantation position. The leaflets define, in the implantation position, a flow duct that is selectably obstructable. The anchor portion can be deployed to enable anchorage of the cardiac-valve prosthesis at an implantation site.

Other simplifications to the user interface can be provided to assist in editing, such as by maintaining a video display window for displaying the edited video program at a fixed position for all available editing operations. Additionally, video information can be captured directly into a timeline representation of a video program, rather than a bin. Using a storyboard tied to the capturing process, a user is directed through the process of collecting and capturing the video clips to be used in the video program.

Graphical user interface for a motion video planning and editing system for a computer

A system and method for indexing an audio stream for subsequent information retrieval and for skimming, gisting, and summarizing the audio stream includes using special audio prefiltering such that only relevant speech segments that are generated by a speech recognition engine are indexed. Specific indexing features are disclosed that improve the precision and recall of an information retrieval system used after indexing for word spotting. The invention includes rendering the audio stream into intervals, with each interval including one or more segments. For each segment of an interval it is determined whether the segment exhibits one or more predetermined audio features such as a particular range of zero crossing rates, a particular range of energy, and a particular range of spectral energy concentration. The audio features are heuristically determined to represent respective audio events including silence, music, speech, and speech on music. Also, it is determined whether a group of intervals matches a heuristically predefined meta pattern such as continuous uninterrupted speech, concluding ideas, hesitations and emphasis in speech, and so on, and the audio stream is then indexed based on the interval classification and meta pattern matching, with only relevant features being indexed to improve subsequent precision of information retrieval. Also, alternatives for longer terms generated by the speech recognition engine are indexed along with respective weights, to improve subsequent recall.

System and method for automatic audio content analysis for word spotting, indexing, classification and retrieval

An authoring tool has a graphical user interface enabling interactive authoring of a multimedia presentation including temporal and nontemporal media. The graphical user interface enables specification of the temporal and spatial relationships among the media and playback of the presentation with the specified temporal and spatial relationships. The spatial and temporal relationships among the media may be changed independently of each other. The presentation may be viewed interactively under the control of the author during the authoring process without encoding the audio and video data into a streaming media data file for combination with the other media, simulating behavior of a browser that would receive a streaming media data file. The multimedia presentation may include elements that initiate playback of the presentation from a specified point in time. After authoring of the presentation is completed, the authoring tool assists in encoding and transferring the presentation for distribution. Information about the distribution format and location may be stored as user-defined profiles. Communication with the distribution location may be tested and presentation and the distribution information may be audited prior to encoding and transfer to reduce errors. A presentation is encoded according to the defined temporal and spatial relationships and the distribution format and location information to produce and encoded presentation. The encoded presentation and any supporting media data are transferred to the distribution location, such as a server. A streaming media server may be used for streaming media, whereas other data may be stored on a conventional data server. Accounts may be provided for a streaming media server for authors to publish their presentations. The authoring tool may be associated with a service that uses the streaming media server. Such streaming media servers also may be a source of stock footage for use by authors.

Authoring system for combining temporal and nontemporal digital media

An automated system and method for classifying audio or audio/video signals as music or non-music is provided. A spectrum module receives at least one digitized audio signal from a source and generates representations of the power distribution of the audio signal with respect to frequency and time. A first moment module calculates, for each time instant, a first moment of the distribution representation with respect to frequency and in turn generates a representation of a time series of first moment values. A degree of variation module in turn calculates a measure of degree of variation with respect to time of the values of the time series and produces a representation of the first moment time series variation measuring values. Lastly, a module classifies the representation by detecting patterns of low variation, which correspond to the presence of musical content in the original digitized audio signal, and patterns of high variation, which correspond to the absence of musical content in the original digitized audio signal.
