Search criteria can be dependent upon preferences or search restrictions selected by the user device, e.g., rating information about the POI, as well as location of a POI with respect to the real-time position of the user device. Upon selecting a POI from the search result, the user device is then given further information regarding the selected POI, e.g., directions for traveling to the POI. The user device provides a proximity notification once the user device is within a certain distance from the POI. While at a POI, the user device can provide to the system information regarding the POI, such as a rating of the establishment, without having to specifically identify the POI as the system can self-identify the POI by using the position information of the user device.

Point of interest spatial rating search method and system

A system and method for providing a service to promoters, including venues and advertising sponsors, who wish to provide promotions. The service includes making promoter promotions accessible by the mobile phones of members associated with an organization. Typically a promotion and member are matched based on the member's geographical position, which may be reported by the member or determined automatically by a position sensor in their mobile phone, and optionally by the member's traits and behaviors. By accepting a promotion, a member may receive reward points which can be used to obtain goods and services. In addition to accessing promotions, members have mobile access to real-time information about the venues, such as the demographics of venue attendees and media posted by attendees concerning venue characteristics. Using the system, members can determine before going to a venue, such as a nightclub or bar, which venue has their preferred attendee demographic, atmosphere, music, cover charge, drink specials, friends, etc.

System for providing a service to venues where people aggregate

A remote controlled robot system that includes a robot and a remote control station. The robot includes a binaural microphone system that is coupled to a speaker system of the remote control station. The binaural microphone system may include a pair of microphones located at opposite sides of a robot head. the location of the microphones roughly coincides with the location of ears on a human body. Such microphone location creates a mobile robot that more effectively simulates the tele-presence of an operator of the system. The robot may include two different microphone systems and the ability to switch between systems. For example, the robot may also include a zoom camera system and a directional microphone. The directional microphone may be utilized to capture sound from a direction that corresponds to an object zoomed upon by the camera system.

In a navigation device in accordance with the invention, user profiles may be stored and used to navigate a user who may be driving in a vehicle, on foot, or in other mode of transportation. Each user profile corresponds to one of the user's personae. For example, the user business profile corresponding to the user's business persona may be different from the user personal profile corresponding to the user's personal persona. For instance, the user business profile may include fine-dining type restaurants for business meetings while the user personal profile may instead include fast-food type restaurants for personal dining. The inventive navigation device provides the user with a navigated route, together with information concerning the favorite facilities and events surrounding the navigated route, which satisfy the preferences in a selected user profile. In accordance with an aspect of the invention, blockages may also be established using the device to avoid selected areas, e.g., high crime areas, in the navigated route, or to block transmission of selected information concerning, e.g., uninteresting facilities and events, to the inventive navigation device.

In a communication arrangement in accordance with the invention, a server (105) is employed to collect and organize information for mobile device users (120,130) according to the user profiles, e.g., personal profile, business profile, vacation profile, etc. This arrangement allows the user to advantageously maintain only necessary information in the mobile device (120,130) and download any additional information from the server (105) as needed. In addition, the server (105) is capable of serving mobile devices (120,130) which may be incompatible with one another, thereby facilitating an exchange of information between such devices. Moreover, with the server, incoming messages for the user are organized and stored according to the source of the messages and the user criteria in the user profiles. Further, information in a mobile device may be organized using E-cards which facilitate the transfer of information from the mobile device to the server, or other mobile devices to conduct various commercial and data transactions.
