A novel design of a planar antenna with modified patch and defective ground plane for ultra‐wideband applications

The design of microstrip patch (MP) antenna using Moth–Flame optimization (MFO) algorithm for UWB applications is presented in this article. MP antennas are designed to operate in dual and multi-band application as it possess the following advantages such as low cost, light weight and easy installation. To reduce the microstrip patch cross-polarized radiation and to attain the essential radiation parameters, the MP antenna is designed with a defected ground structure. The substrate of liquid crystal polymer is used here to reduce the material cost and the applicable geometry parameters are used to improve antenna performance. The MFO optimized antenna represents 50 mm × 50 mm compact size, which improves the performance of antenna. However, the simulation procedure is done by the MATLAB tool along with high frequency structure simulator for parameter optimization and performance analysis respectively. The operational bandwidth of the antenna is 3.1 GHz and the return loss is − 20 dB that covers the UWB (3.1–10.6 GHz) applications. The simulation outcomes exhibit good impedance bandwidth, radiation pattern, directivity, and relatively constant gain over the entire band of frequency comparing with the earlier methods. Finally, the proposed system can be a better option for the design of microstrip antenna in the communication system, to cover Bluetooth operations, Wi-Fi, Wi-MAX, Telemedicine and UWB applications.

Design and Optimization of Microstrip Patch Antenna for UWB Applications Using Moth–Flame Optimization Algorithm

UWB antenna and MIMO antennas with bandwidth, band‐notched, and isolation properties for high‐speed data rate wireless communication: A review

In the present paper, a microstrip line fed compact monopole printed antenna is designed for Bluetooth, WLAN and WiMAX applications. The designed antenna has a compact size of dimensions 34 × 20 × 1.6 mm3. The proposed antenna comprises asymmetric U-shaped radiator embedded with a T-shaped strip in the middle of the patch. Stair shaped defected ground plane with rectangular slit is used for the bandwidth enhancement. The antenna design achieves the maximum impedance bandwidth of 107.35% (2.27–7.53 GHz). Radiation efficiency is higher than 70.0% throughout the entire operating band. The simulated and measured realised antenna gains are in good agreement and vary in the range of 2.14–4.83 and 2.20–4.91 dBi respectively. Radiation patterns are almost omnidirectional in H-plane and bidirectional pattern in E-plane. The antenna characteristics are calculated using CST Microwave Studio and the results are compared with the measured results.

Asymmetric U-shaped printed monopole antenna embedded with T-shaped strip for bluetooth, WLAN/WiMAX applications

This paper presents a simple broadband planar monopole microstrip patch antenna with curved slot and partial ground plane. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated on commercially available FR4 material with er = 4.3 and 0.025 loss tangent. Bandwidth enhancement has been achieved by introducing a curved slot in the patch and optimizing the gap between the patch and the partial ground plane and the gap between the curved slot and the edge of the patch. Simulated peak gain of the proposed antenna is 4.8 dB. The impedance bandwidth (defined by 10 dB return loss) of the proposed antenna is 109% (2–6.8 GHz), which shows bandwidth enhancement of 26% as compared with simple monopole antenna. The antenna is useful for 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN bands, 2.5/3.5/5.5-GHz WiMAX bands, and other wireless communication services. Measured results show good agreement with the simulated results. The proposed antenna details are described and measured/simulated results are elaborated.

Bandwidth enhancement of a planar monopole microstrip patch antenna

In this communication, a corner truncated broadband patch antenna with circular slots is presented. The proposed antenna is fabricated on 14 * 14 * 1.57 mm3 Rogers RT5870 substrate (er = 2.33 and loss tangent of 0.0012) and a 50-Ω SMA connector is used for excitation. Bandwidth enhancement has been reported due to cutting of two circular slots and truncating the corners of the square patch, which gives rise to mode splitting phenomenon and better impedance matching. Simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth (S11 < 10 dB) of the proposed antenna is 19% (10.8–13.2 GHz). Measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results. The fractional bandwidth of the proposed antenna has enhanced from 8.5 to 19% as compared to the simple patch antenna, showing an enhancement of 123%. The peak gain of the proposed antenna is 7 dB. The antenna finds application in satellite communication, radar communication, and other alleged wireless communication services. Corner truncated broadband patch antenna with circular slots

In this article, a miniaturized dual broadband printed slot antenna with parasitic slot and patch is presented. Antenna is excited by a 50-Ω microstrip line from the bottom. A wide slot antenna with a parasitic patch is taken as reference antenna. By the use of parasitic slot and patch an additional band is excited. Simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth, defined by 10-dB return loss can operate from 2.4 to 6.1 GHz and 9.4 to 13.8 GHz, showing dual band nature. Experimental result shows agreement with the simulated results. Also, gain enhancement of 2 dB in second band has been observed. The proposed antenna is miniaturized to 60% in comparison to the reference antenna. The antenna is useful for 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN bands, 2.5/3.5/5.5-GHz WiMAX bands and other wireless communication services.
