Risk management in sustainable smart cities governance: A TOE framework

A crucial goal for future Grid systems is to strive towards user-centric service provisioning. A way to achieve this is through the use of economics-based resource management. Currently, several models exist from among which auction- and commodity-based models are the most popular. This contribution will focus on the latter, and in particular on commodity markets, where the value of a Grid resource is determined by supply and demand. We propose some refinements to the application of Smale's method for finding price equilibria in such a Grid market. We also extend the approach to substitutable goods. That is, we introduce 'slow' and 'fast' CPUs, two categories of the same type of good that are priced separately, but are strongly coupled with potentially strong shifts in demand. We show that Smale's method can be adapted to handle this type of Grid resources market, and that price stability, allocative efficiency, and fairness are realized.

Mass Personalisation as a Service in Industry 4.0: A Resilient Response Case Study

Presently, most smart cities face massive traffic issues every day. The smart cities’ significant challenge is the traffic control system, wherein some places are automated and cost-effective. In this manuscript, cloud-assisted Internet of things Intelligent Transportation System (CIoT-ITS) is proposed to overcome traffic management’s challenges. Here, the IoT sensor integrated camera is installed in every traffic signal corner to monitor the vehicle’s flow. Further, the optimised vehicle flow data is sent to the cloud processes. The data from the various signal corners runs an algorithm to detect traffic direction and controls the signal lights. The alert notification is sent to the nearest traffic control room during traffic congestion using IoT sensors. Simulation analysis proved that the proposed CIoT-ITS could monitor and manage the vehicle flow successfully and automatically. The proposed system has been validated based on the optimisation parameter, which outperforms conventional methods. 

Cloud assisted Internet of things intelligent transportation system and the traffic control system in the smart city

Similar software systems have similar test cases. We find much redundancy even within test cases of a single system. In this paper, we describe the results of similarity analysis performed on Android platform framework project’s test case libraries. The results confirm our hypothesis that reuse of test cases can boost productivity at least as much as reuse of code. We identified repetition patterns in Android platform framework test case libraries that can be represented in generic form for further reuse using variability techniques adopted from Software Product Line (SPL). By exploiting similarity among test cases, we can design generic test case libraries that are much smaller, easier to develop/evolve than existing test case libraries. In this paper, we present quantitative and qualitative findings from our study of Android platform framework test case libraries. We discuss typical patterns of repetitions and illustrate an example of how they can be treated with variability technique ‘XML-based Variant Configuration Language (XVCL)’.

Towards Test Case Reuse: A Study of Redundancies in Android Platform Test Libraries

Highly populated cities depend highly on intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) for reliable and efficient resource utilization and traffic management. Current transportation systems struggle to meet different stakeholder expectations while trying their best to optimize resources in providing various transport services. This paper proposes a Microservice-Oriented Big Data Architecture (MOBDA) incorporating data processing techniques, such as predictive modelling for achieving smart transportation and analytics microservices required towards smart cities of the future. We postulate key transportation metrics applied on various sources of transportation data to serve this objective. A novel hybrid architecture is proposed to combine stream processing and batch processing of big data for a smart computation of microservice-oriented transportation metrics that can serve the different needs of stakeholders. Development of such an architecture for smart transportation and analytics will improve the predictability of transport supply for transport providers and transport authority as well as enhance consumer satisfaction during peak periods.

MOBDA: Microservice-Oriented Big Data Architecture for Smart City Transport Systems

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), many different smart home technologies are commercially available. However, the adoption of such technologies is slow as many of them are not cost-effective and focus on specific functions such as energy efficiency. Recently, IoT devices and sensors have been designed to enhance the quality of personal life by having the capability to generate continuous data streams that can be used to monitor and make inferences by the user. While smart home devices connect to the home Wi-Fi network, there are still compatibility issues between devices from different manufacturers. Smart devices get even smarter when they can communicate with and control each other. The information collected by one device can be shared with others for achieving an enhanced automation of their operations. This paper proposes a non-intrusive approach of integrating and collecting data from open standard IoT devices for personalised smart home automation using big data analytics and machine learning. We demonstrate the implementation of our proposed novel technology instantiation approach for achieving non-intrusive IoT based big data analytics with a use case of a smart home environment. We employ open-source frameworks such as Apache Spark, Apache NiFi and FB-Prophet along with popular vendor tech-stacks such as Azure and DataBricks.

Big Data and Personalisation for Non-Intrusive Smart Home Automation

This research study is about constructing "generic adaptable test cases" to counter test case libraries explosion problem. Our work focuses on effort reduction via systematic reuse of generic test assets by taking advantage of common aspects and predicted variability in test cases. We envision that the proposed approach to organizing test case libraries will be particularly useful in the context of Software Product Line Testing (SPLT). By exploring strategies for generic test cases, I hope to address problems of domain-level testing. Our work will investigate existing testing (SPLT) practices in variability management context by conducting empirical studies. We plan to synthesize principles for "generic test case" design, identify gaps between required and exiting techniques, and finally propose new approach for generic adaptive test case construction.

Generic adaptable test cases for software product line testing: software product line

This chapter proposes a strategic framework with practical guidelines for the key players, namely, cloud service providers, cloud architects, and consumers, which would facilitate in successful adoption of cloudbased service-oriented solutions for e-businesses. In this context, we discuss the security, privacy, and governance issues related to cloud implementations, as well as the possible benefits that cloud services could offer. Additionally, the various models and dimensions of the cloud that aid in the understanding and strategic planning of the cloud implementation in e-businesses are discussed. Underpinning these aspects is the proposed service-oriented strategic framework that provides a step-wise guideline for a successful cloud adoption exemplified with an e-business case.
