Effect of strength non-homogeneity on the shape of failure envelopes for combined loading of strip and circular foundations on clay
Susan Gourvenec,Mark Randolph +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the capacity of surface foundations on clay under pure vertical (V), horizontal (H) or moment (M) loading may be expressed in non-dimensional form through the use of appropriate bearing capacity factors, with values that will be affected by the shape of the foundation and also any variation of undrained shear strength with depth.

Effect of embedment on the undrained capacity of shallow foundations under general loading
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of embedment on the undrained bearing capacity of shallow strip foundations under uniaxial and combined loading was investigated, and the results showed that the size and shape of failure envelopes defining the undrainability of shallow foundations under general loading are dependent on embedment ratio.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent advances in offshore geotechnics for deep water oil and gas developments
TL;DR: In this paper, an overview of recent developments in geotechnical analysis and design associated with oil and gas developments in deep water is presented, including: new equipment and techniques to characterise the seabed; yield function approaches to evaluate the capacity of shallow skirted foundations; novel anchoring systems for moored floating facilities; pipeline and steel catenary riser interaction with the seafloor; and submarine slides and their impact on infrastructure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Undrained failure envelope for skirted foundations under general loading
TL;DR: In this paper, a closed-form expression is proposed that enables prediction of undrained bearing capacity of skirted foundations under general in-plane loading, valid for a range of embedment ratios and soil shear strength heterogeneities.
