Adoption of soil conservation: the case of the Philippine uplands

TL;DR: In this article, a microeconomic analysis of adoption of contour hedgerows by upland farmers in the Philippines is conducted to identify the factors that determine adoption, and the empirical results show that adoption depends on several farm and farmer characteristics and the relative importance of these factors differs across sites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Yield and Soil Fertility Trends in a 20-Year Rice–Rice–Wheat Experiment in Nepal

TL;DR: The study showed that the current local fertilizer recommendations, particularly for K, for the rice-rice-wheat system are inadequate, and depletion of soil K and inadequate K fertilization seems to be the primary reasons of limited and declining yield of first rice and wheat crop.

Economic costs of drought and rice farmers risk coping mechanisms: a cross country comparative analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the economic costs of drought and rice farmers' coping mechanisms were analyzed using time series and farm survey data from China, India and Thailand, and the economic cost was estimated to be 2-6% of the value of output.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term changes in yield and soil fertility in a twenty-year rice-wheat experiment in Nepal

TL;DR: Soil analyses of the past 6 years showed that treatments receiving organic sources of nutrients increased total soil C and N from 18% to 62% and 15% to 48%, respectively, compared with the NPK treatment, which showed that the grain yield of rice and wheat was maintained over the years.

Direct Seeding : research strategies and opportunities

TL;DR: A workshop on direct seeding in Asian rice systems: Strategic issues and opportunities was organized by IRRI, together with the Rice Research Institute, Thailand, in 2000 as mentioned in this paper, to assess the likely future patterns of change in crop establishment in various ecosystems and regions, and identify strategic research issues for improving rice productivity by manipulating crop establishment methods and related factors.
