Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence that concentrations of ouabain which induce positive inotropic effects on the perfused guinea-pig heart increase the amount of calcium in a rapidly-exchangeable cellular compartment.

TL;DR: The results are consistent with the conclusion that one of the actions of ouabain on myocardial muscle cells is to increase the quantity of rapidly-exchangeable calcium bound to extracellular sites on the sarcolemma and/or present in the myoplasm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of adrenaline on a compartment of slowly-exchangeable calcium in the perfused rat heart

TL;DR: One of the actions of adrenaline on the heart is to increase the quantity of exchangeable Ca2+ in the mitochondria, and evidence that compartment 5 includes mitochondrial exchangeableCa2+ is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetic properties of exchangeable calcium in guinea-pig heart mitochondria measured at low concentrations of free calcium and in the presence of Mg2+, ATP4- and inorganic phosphate.

TL;DR: The kinetic properties of exchangeable Ca2+ in isolated guinea-pig heart mitochondria were studied at 25 degrees C in the presence of 0.9 mM free Mg2+, ATP, phosphate ions and 0.4 - 0.5 microM free Ca2 + using a 45Ca2+ exchange technique.
