An ink-jet recording head (1) is mounted on a carriage (2), recording engines (3, 3') for printing a recording sheet with ejected ink droplets are so disposed that a recording sheet can be inserted from one of different sheet feed passages (4, 4') and the ink is supplied to each recording engine (3, 3') from a common main tank (6). An ink-jet recorder has a control means (10) for comparing the amount of external print data with a reference amount of data, divides the print data into units of data of one page if the amount of print data is greater than the reference amount of data, and distributes the external print data to the recording engines. If the amount of print data is less than the reference amount of data, one recording engine is operated singly to execute printing.

A heat exchanger 36 for cooling an array of electric circuit chips 22 disposed on a common substrate 24 is formed as a flexible sheet 38 of thermally conducting material with upstanding fins 40 for transference of heat from the chips to a coolant flowing through the fins. The sheet may be provided with corrugations 44 set between sites of the chips for improved flexibility to accommodate individual orientations of the chips. The sheet is sufficiently large to cover an array of chips and is secured adheringly, as by use of a thermally conductive grease, to the chips. The sheet hermetically seals the chips from contamination by the coolant. The heat exchanger may be fabricated of copper with a nickel coating, wherein the copper provides the heat conduction and the nickel protects the copper from a corrosive coolant such as water. The finned sheet may be efficiently fabricated by processes analogous to those used to make printed circuits. In one embodiment of the heat exchanger, the fin thickness, the fin spacing and the sheet thickness are all approximately equal, a typical sheet thickness being approximately 0.05 mm.

A fail safe gas furnace optical flame sensor uses a transconductance amplifier with low photodiode current to sense the presence or absence of a gas flame within the burner of a gas furnace. The photodiode signal appears as the only negative voltage signal in the circuit, and the equivalent resistance feedback network is redundantly designed, thus ensuring that no false flame-on conditions will be detected due to the failure of a single resistive component. Because it does not reside within the flame, the sensor is immune to false flame-off conditions caused by material deposition and corrosion of the sensor.

An interactive real-time, distributed control system for textile weaving machines including real time, interactive bi-directional communications centrally manages the whole range of activities of a weaving room. Microcontrollers at each weaving machine control most of the routine weaving functions and operations, but communicate in real time with a central computer which provides large-scale data storage and analysis. Easy, consistent automatic machine set-ups result from electronically downloading cloth style and dobby control data from the central computer to the weaving machine microcontrollers. Because communications between the microcontrollers and the central computer as well as much of the analysis performed by the central computer occur interactively on a real time basis, correction and optimization of the weaving process at individual machines is possible, resulting in higher productivity and quality. Less of quality product is produced since weaving machines are stopped automatically when out-of-control conditions occur and/or real time adjustments in independent weaving variables (e.g., filling angle of release) are made.

This invention relates to a flexible robot arm comprising a plurality of disc-shaped elements arranged in a series so as to consist of a flexible arm, both surfaces of each of the elements being formed in convex having an arched opposed single curve so as to form contact surfaces, and a plurality of wire-like actuating devices for allowing the flexible arm to curve or bend in a desired direction. The flexible robot arm of this invention is directed to make motors for driving the actuating devices compact in size and light in weight and also a drive unit section compact in size and light in weight. The flexible robot arm includes two drive units each interconnected to the proximal ends of respective pairs of actuating devices (e.g. 3a and 3c, and 3b and 3d) disposed oppositely to each other on the diagonal and driven through rotary members (5a, 5b, 9a, 9b or 12a, 12b, 12c, 12d) each being rotated by one of the motors (8a, 8 b) in both the clockwise and the anti-clockwise directions.

A method and an apparatus for controlling operation of at least one operating element of a loom on the basis of a reference signal are disclosed. A rotational position signal developed during each weaving cycle of the loom is compared with the reference signal to issue a rotational angle signal indicating an angle through which the loom has been rotated with respect to a reference angular position. By utilizing this rotational angle signal, the timing of the operation of any operating element can be determined.

A weft yarn detector for detecting weft yarn inserted into a weft yarn guide passage formed by a series of weft yarn guide members mounted on a slay of a loom is disclosed. The detector comprises a weft yarn detecting body with two supporting portions disposed opposite to each other on the opposite sides of the weft yarn guide passage, and weft yarn detecting elements supported by the two supporting portions. According to this invention, the detector is characterized by a flexible, thin, printed-wiring plate attached to the weft yarn detecting body and electrically connecting the weft yarn detecting elements to an external control system.
