The invention discloses an exhaust pipe decoupler for vehicles including a bellows (10), an outer braid member (20) spaced from the bellows and braided with a predetermined angle, a retainer (30) having a support (31) inwardly curved at both ends thereof for engaging to a ring damper (40), the retainer being affixed to the ends of the bellows (10) and installed between the outer surface of the bellows (10) and the outer braid member (20) to prevent direct contact thereof, the ring damper (40) located outward the support (31) formed in the retainer (30), a fixing cap (50) coupled to the outer diameter of the outer braid member (20) in order that the outer braid member (20) and the retainer (30) are located outward the bellows (10), wherein the outer braid member (20) absorbs tension in excessive outer forces, i.e., displacement of tension and compression, and the ring damper (40) controls the displacement of compression and shear displacement by the ring damper (40), thereby controlling the bellows within the elastic range.

This invention relates to a decoupler for the exhaust pipes of automobile. The preferred decoupler includes a conduit-type sleeve (10); a conduit-type cover member (20) generally covering the sleeve (10); a guiding member (30) extended from the end of the cover member (20), the guiding member serving to accommodate a bending articulation or radial displacement of the decoupler; an inner retainer pocket (40) having a rim (41) engaged in the outer surface of said sleeve (10), wherein said rim is extended circumferentially and forms a first pocket (42) with said guiding member (30); an outer retainer member (50) having an enlarged diameter area (40) and forming a second pocket (52) with said guiding member (30); buffering members (60, 61) located in the pockets (42, 52); and a bellows (70) fixably engaged between said inner retainer member (40) and said cover member (20), wherein said bellows (70) prvents leakage of gas therein and absorbs the elastic and bending displacement, to allow said guiding member (30) to slide during bending articulation of buffering members (60, 61). Moreover, the present invention can minimize the effect of bending displacement on the engine because the invented decoupler absorbs vibration and accommodates bending displacement. In addition, the present invention can increase parts life and riding comfort.

The guide member ( 40 ) slides along the first and second mesh rings ( 60, 61 ) to absorb the bending displacement, thereby absorbing the displacements due to the pitching vibration and rolling motion. The present invention has an effect to improve the durability of the exhaust system and passengers' comfort and prolong the life of the exhaust system as well as reduction of the wear and friction noise.

Decoupler for exhaust pipe of automobiles

A flexible pipe unit for an exhaust pipe line of an internal combustion engine comprises a metal bellows which has a front open end adapted to be connected to a first exhaust pipe and a rear open end adapted to be connected to a second exhaust pipe. A cylindrical outer case of metal is coaxially disposed about the metal bellows in a manner to define therebetween a cylindrical space. A first structure is arranged between a front end of the outer case and a front end of the bellows to achieve a mechanical connection therebetween. A second structure is arranged between a rear end of the outer case and a rear end of the bellows to achieve a mechanical connection therebetween. At least one of the first and second structures comprises a spring member by which the bellows and the outer case are resiliently connected.
