Journal ArticleDOI

A model of wind-borne debris damage

TL;DR: This paper presented a model for describing the damage that might be done to buildings by wind-borne debris in a sustained high-speed wind such as a typhoon or hurricane, as distinct from the damage inflicted by the direct wind pressure itself.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measurement and application of the aerodynamic admittance function for a box-girder bridge

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the use of aerofoil solutions to predict the vertical component of the response of slender bridges to excitation by atmospheric turbulence and showed that aerodynamic damping can be computed separately for chordwise and spanwise terms in the spectral admittance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of gust action stress cycle counts for fatigue checking of line-like steel structures

TL;DR: In this paper, a spectral analysis of structural response to a gusty wind is applied to the prediction of fatigue damage as expressed by the rate of accumulation of Miner's quotient, using the rainflow algorithm to establish stress-range cycle counts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamic gust response of inclined towers

TL;DR: In this article, the authors extended the classical stochastic dynamic analysis of line-like structures to the case of a lattice tower with axis inclined to the vertical, for example an inclined flare tower.
