Wirtschaftliche und okologische Aspekte fuhrten in den letzten Jahren zu deutlich gesteigerten Anforderungen an die Effizienz und die Flexibilitat petrochemischer Anlagen. Die heutzutage geforderten Prozesstemperaturen und -drucke lassen sich nur durch den Einsatz neuer warmfester Stahlguten erreichen. Der mit Vanadium modifizierte Stahl 13CrMoV9-10 weist eine bessere Kriech und Druckwasserstoffbestandigkeit auf und wird seit Mitte der 90er Jahre im petrochemischen Reaktorbau eingesetzt. Aufgrund der niedrigen Zahigkeit und hohen Festigkeit des Schweisgutes im geschweisten, nicht spannungsarm gegluhten Zustand sowie einer erhohten Sensitivitat gegenuber Spannungsrelaxationsrissen bedarf dieser Stahl allerdings einer auserst sorgfaltigen schweistechnischen Verarbeitung. Bisherige Untersuchungen zur Rissentstehung in warmfesten Stahlen konzentrierten sich vorrangig auf thermische und metallurgische Einflussfaktoren, bieten jedoch nur wenige Erkenntnisse zum Einfluss des Schweisprozesses auf die Rissbildung beim Spannungsarmgluhen unter Berucksichtigung realitatsnaher Fertigungsbedingungen.
Im ersten Teil wurde zunachst der Einfluss der Warmefuhrung auf die mechanischen Eigenschaften anhand von frei schrumpfenden Laborproben untersucht. Wahrend sich die Warmefuhrung wesentlich auf die Schweisnahtstruktur auswirkte, war ein signifikanter Effekt auf die mechanischen Eigenschaften nicht nachweisbar. Auch traten infolge der Warmenachbehandlung der frei schrumpfend geschweisten Proben keine Spannungsrelaxationsrisse auf.
Der zweite Teil umfasste die realitatsnahe Abbildung der Fertigungsbedingungen im petrochemischen Reaktorbau. Zu diesem Zweck wurden die konstruktiven Randbedingungen wahrend des Vorwarmens, Schweisens, des Wasserstoffarmgluhens und der abschliesenden Warmenachbehandlung realitatsnah in einer speziellen 3-D-Prufanlage zur Simulation von Bauteilschweisungen abgebildet. Unter konstruktiver Schrumpfbehinderung gelang der Nachweis der unterschiedlichen Wirkung von Vorwarm- / Zwischenlagentemperatur und Streckenenergie auf die resultierenden Krafte, Momente und Spannungen. Die Gesamtreaktionsspannung nach dem Schweisen wurde innerhalb des untersuchten Parameterfeldes masgeblich durch die Streckenenergie beeinflusst.
Ein moglichst geringer Gesamtwarmeeintrag hat die niedrigste Bauteilbeanspruchung zur Folge. Wahrend der Warmenachbehandlung kam es in allen Versuchen zu Spannungsrelaxationsrissen.
Deren kumulierte Lange korrelierte mit den ermittelten schweisbedingten Reaktionsspannungen. Die Detektion der Risse wahrend der Warmenachbehandlung im Bauteilversuch erfolgte erstmalig in-situ mittels Schallemissionsanalyse. Die Rissinitiierung fand nachweislich im Temperaturbereich von 300 °C bis 500 °C statt. Die Reaktionsspannungen nach der Warmenachbehandlung lagen unabhangig von der Ausgangsbelastung auf einem vergleichbaren Niveau. Die Zahigkeit der Schweisverbindung nahm klar gegenuber den frei schrumpfend geschweisten Proben ab.
Mittels REM- und TEM-Analysen an vergleichbaren belasteten und unbelasteten Proben wurde eine beschleunigte Alterung, durch das fruhzeitige Ausscheiden von Sonderkarbiden wahrend der Warmenachbehandlung unter definierter Einspannung (d. h. unter Belastung), nachgewiesen. Die verstarkte Korngrenzensegregation korrelierte mit der signifikanten Abnahme der Kerbschlagarbeit der unter Einspannung geschweisten Proben.

Zum Einfluss der Wärmeführung auf die Rissbildung beim Spannungsarmglühen dickwandiger Bauteile aus 13CrMoV9-10

Wire arc additive manufacturing (AM) is the process by which a large, metallic structure is built layer-by-layer using a welding arc to melt a wire feedstock. A novel opportunity exists to alter the shielding gas composition to fabricate distinct geometrical features without altering the other AM parameters. In the following study, shielding gases with varied concentrations of Argon (Ar) and CO2 was used to deposit three distinct geometric shapes (walls, infill, and overhang) using a wire-based additive manufacturing system utilizing the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) surface tension transfer (STT) process. Computer-aided design (CAD) models were sliced with a custom-built slicer, and the sliced algorithm was converted into optimal robotic toolpaths. A custom virtual instrument (VI) was built in LabVIEW to compare the temperature profiles on the surface during each deposition process. After each deposition, the geometric features were scanned, and the surface waviness value was evaluated. Tensile and Charpy impact coupons were extracted from the wall geometries in the longitudinal and transverse directions and tested. The results indicated that a higher CO2 content produced higher melt pool temperatures to an extent, while lower contents of CO2 resulted in a dimensionally accurate geometry. The data also indicated that the 2%/98% CO2/Ar blend produced scatter in tensile strength and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) shows significant difference. However, the intermediate range of CO2 (5–10%) resulted in uniform tensile properties. Altogether, these results indicate that a 5%/95% CO2/Ar blend is the ideal shielding gas for lowering process temperatures and improving mechanical properties in wire arc additive manufacturing using the gas metal arc welding surface tension transfer process. Additionally, varying concentrations of Ar/CO2 can be used within the same part in order to modify the local properties or process parameters such as strength, toughness, temperature, or dimensional features. This may improve overall manufacturing quality without sacrificing specific properties.

An experimental investigation of the effectiveness of Ar-CO 2 shielding gas mixture for the wire arc additive process

A large fraction of reheated weld metal is formed during multi-pass welding, which significantly affects the reliability and stability of the welded structures. In this study, the effect of reheating on the mechanical properties and microstructure of high-strength steel welds during multi-pass welding was investigated. Two kinds of high-strength steel welds with different hardenabilities, i.e., welds L (low hardenability) and H (high hardenability), were produced by single-pass, bead-in-groove welding, and both welds were thermally cycled to various peak temperatures to simulate the reheated welds using a Gleeble simulator. In as-welded weld L, acicular ferrite developed extensively in the grain interior, while grain boundary ferrite and Widmanstätten ferrite formed along the prior austenite grain boundaries. The microstructure of as-welded weld H consisted mainly of bainite, with some acicular ferrite and coalesced bainite. The microstructural changes due to thermal cycling were observed by scanning electron microscopy and correlated with the mechanical properties.

Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Reheated Zones in the Multi-pass Weld Metal of High-Strength Steel

Exploring the impact of rolling temperature on interface microstructure and mechanical properties of steel–bronze explosive welded bilayer composite sheets

Rapid Prototyping (RP) or Solid Freeform Fabrication (SFF) is one of the fastest developing automated manufacturing technologies in which CAD models can be directly used to make finished products. A welding based RP process shows good promise to produce dense, and structurally strong metallic parts and tools. In this paper a comparison of the material properties is made between weld based prototype parts, produced both with and without intermediate machining after each deposited layer. Material properties were investigated both on a macro and microscopic level. It has been found that there exists a sequential fluctuating behaviour in the microstructure of the deposit without machining. This behaviour, however, is only confined to the top layer of the Deposition with Intermediate Machining (DWIM). The hardness test results also reveal a similar behaviour. Tensile testing results on the contrary show little difference in the strength of the two types of buildups.

A comparative study has been carried out on the toughness of specimens of the C-Mn multilayer weld steel and that of the specimens simulated with the various reheating cycles by using the weld thermal-restraint stress and strain cycle simulator. It proved that the region initiating the cleavage crack, i.e., the weakest region in the multilayer weld metal impact-fractured at -60 o C (-76 o F), is just the region having the lowest toughness among various reheated zones. The toughness of weld metal depends upon the toughness value of this weakest region in the multilayer weldment.
