Achieving Greater Project Success & Profitability through Pre-construction Planning: A Case-based Study

The present study aims to investigate and formulate factors influencing the engineering value of urban construction phases in a Bustan located in Tehran, Iran. First, four main factors of "system management", "characteristics and specifications", "implementing company" and "environmental conditions" were evaluated using questionnaire method among 63 managers and experts, consultant, and contractor of the Iranian Boston Project. Then, factors and criteria were analyzed using descriptive statistics and various tests such as Kolmogorov-Smirnov's Normality Test, Binomial Ratio Test, and Friedman Ranking Test using SPSS software. The results showed that system management with a value of 3.25 has a higher priority than other factors affecting the engineering value of the phase of the construction, and the characteristics of the project with the value of 2.92, the host company with the value of 2.31 and the environmental conditions of the project with the amount of 1.52 are in the order of priority.

Investigating and Developing Factors Affecting the Engineering Value of the Phase of Construction of Urban Gardens (Case Study of Iranian Gardener in Tehran)

Based on the life cycle of architecture this research is designed to study the construction of a super-height building. It serves as an example and discusses the effects of Value Engineering when applied in the planning stage after systematic evaluation, including the creative model, cost analysis, matrix evaluation and major factors analysis. A pre-cast external wall was used in high-level architecture to replace the complex external wall system. It turned out that the cost of external walls was reduced by 43%, which was equal to 4.1% of the total construction cost, or about NTD forty-three million Yuan. Therefore, VE when applied to the planning stage of construction was extremely effective, and the overall cost reduction showed VE to be worthy application for architecture designers and construction manager.

Value engineering applied at the construction planning stage

The mini-three links has become the most important transportation mode for the Taiwan's businessmen of traveling between Taiwan and China. Therefore, to develop the mini-three links' forecasting model can provide the traveling information of mini-three links to the air carriers, it would be helpful for the air carriers to devise operation plan. This study will combine ARIMA model and backpropagation neural network (BNN) of Artificial intelligence, which just developed recent years, to apply to forecasting mini-three links' traveling requirement and establish suitable forecasting model. Through mean square error (MSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) measure forecasting achievement found out that the result of combine ARIMA and BNN mode is superior to individual forecasting mode of ARIMA and BNN. As a result, to combine ARIMA and BNN mode to set the forecasting of traveling between mini-three links is very accurate.
