A dry monoload microcalorimeter and standard barretter mounts with effective efficiencies exceeding 85% have been used in the development of a 94-GHz power standard. The effective efficiencies of the standard barretter mounts are measured by a calorimeter with an uncertainty of 0.16%. A bolometer mount under test is calibrated to the standard barretter mounts with an uncertainty of 0.23%. Measurements and calibrations are fully automated using a desk-top computer. >

A power measurement standard for W-band at 94 GHz

A system, which automatically measures an effective efficiency of a bolometer mount (BM) in the frequency range of 75-110 GHz (W-band), was developed. It consists of a dry mono-load microcalorimeter and a broadband signal source. An automatic measuring algorithm was newly devised, and it has merit to shorten measuring time. Measurements of effective efficiency were carried out in the full band by 1 GHz intervals and results have shown the possibility of broadband calibration using this system.

Automatic microcalorimeter system for broad band power measurement in 75-110 GHz

A high-precision power meter with a self-calibration function in the short-millimeter wave region (94GHz) has been developed. As a result of self-calibration, a high effective efficiency (99.86 %) of the built-in thin-film barretter mount has been obtained, and a reliable measurement of millimeter wave power with an overall accuracy of +-1 % has become possible.
