Journal ArticleDOI

Permeability of blood vessels after thermal injury

TL;DR: The principal findings were that albumin and both the 70 000 and 150 000 MW dextrans passed from the circulating blood into the interstitial spaces primarily at bifurcations of venules when the tissue had not been exposed to heat or histamine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rheologic impairment of the microcirculation during decompression sickness

TL;DR: Information provided by this study and related evidence from other laboratories indicate that bubble embolism is not a significant factor in production of the microcirculatory aberrations of decompression sickness, however, introduction of large gas-liquid interfaces could be responsible for altering the components and rheologic characteristics of the blood.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pulmonary microcirculation following full-thickness burns

TL;DR: An increase in pulmonary vascular resistance occurs following a full-thickness burn of 40 per cent of the body surface, apparently results from aggregation of formed elements, especially red cells, and may be responsible for the opening of shunts and consequent progressive pulmonary insufficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of mannitol and nicotinic acid on renal papillary blood flow in burned hamsters

TL;DR: Mannitol was effective in restoring renal papillary blood flow of burned and untreated and burned, nicotinic acid treated animals and reversed by the intravenous administration of mannitol.
