Self-pumped phase conjugate resonators and mirrors for use in optical associative memories

Recording of localized transmission gratings by four-wave mixing in non-local photorefractive media with strong response is considered. The input conditions to record dynamic gratings with a stable grating amplitude distribution as well as grating amplitude oscillations are defined. They are determined both by intensities and by a phase difference of input waves. The influence of fluctuations of wave phases on stability of the recorded gratings is considered. Methods of optical control of both the grating amplitude localization degree and the grating amplitude location are defined.

Optical control of the four-wave mixing dynamic grating structure in photorefractive media

Incoherent-to-coherent converters using an induced self- pumped phase conjugator and using a mutually pumped phase conjuga- tor are demonstrated in a Ba1_xSrxTiO3 crystal. Resolution of 28 line pairs/mm has been obtained for the two incoherent-to-coherent converters. An notable advantage for the latter converter is that the converted image with amplified intensity can be obtained easily. Â© 2000 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. Incoherent-to-coherent conversion using an induced self-pumped phase conjugator or a mutually pumped phase conjugator

This paper reveals the inter-dependence and the competition between self-pumped and mutually-pumped phase conjugations, and deals with the periodic instabilities in the phase conjugate output of a BaTiO3 bridge phase conjugator. It presents experimental data demonstrating these instabilities and also gives evidence that the addition of the second beam in a bridge phase conjugator can affect the self-pumping threshold for the first beam. A mathematical model is developed to explain the observed output oscillations.

COMPETITION BETWEEN SELF-PUMPED AND MUTUALLY-PUMPED PHASE CONJUGATIONS IN A BaTiO 3 BRIDGE PHASE CONJUGATOR

An incoherent beam was used to induce the self-pumped phase-conjugate output in a (BaSr) TiO3 crystal. It was found that, in terms of the alteration of the signal-beam parameters, the induced self-pumped phase-conjugate output could be eliminated or maintained after the incoherent beam was removed. The observed effects were attributed to the local modification of the fanning geometry of the signal beam.
