For an inequality system defined by an infinite family of proper convex functions, we introduce some new notions of constraint qualifications in terms of the epigraphs of the conjugates of these functions and study relationships between these new constraint qualifications and other well-known constraint qualifications including the basic constraint qualification studied by Hiriart-Urrutty and Lemarechal and by Li, Nahak, and Singer. Extensions of known results to more general settings are presented, and applications to particular important problems, such as conic programming and approximation theory, are also studied.

Constraint Qualifications for Convex Inequality Systems with Applications in Constrained Optimization

The paper concerns the study of new classes of parametric optimization problems of the so-called infinite programming that are generally defined on infinite-dimensional spaces of decision variables and contain, among other constraints, infinitely many inequality constraints. These problems reduce to semi-infinite programs in the case of finite-dimensional spaces of decision variables. We focus on DC infinite programs with objectives given as the difference of convex functions subject to convex inequality constraints. The main results establish efficient upper estimates of certain subdifferentials of (intrinsically nonsmooth) value functions in DC infinite programs based on advanced tools of variational analysis and generalized differentiation. The value/marginal functions and their subdifferential estimates play a crucial role in many aspects of parametric optimization including well-posedness and sensitivity. In this paper we apply the obtained subdifferential estimates to establishing verifiable conditions for the local Lipschitz continuity of the value functions and deriving necessary optimality conditions in parametric DC infinite programs and their remarkable specifications. Finally, we employ the value function approach and the established subdifferential estimates to the study of bilevel finite and infinite programs with convex data on both lower and upper level of hierarchical optimization. The results obtained in the paper are new not only for the classes of infinite programs under consideration but also for their semi-infinite counterparts.

On strong and total Lagrange duality for convex optimization problems

For an inequality system defined by a possibly infinite family of proper functions (not necessarily lower semicontinuous), we introduce some new notions of constraint qualifications in terms of the epigraphs of the conjugates of these functions. Under the new constraint qualifications, we obtain characterizations of those reverse-convex inequalities which are a consequence of the constrained system, and we provide necessary and/or sufficient conditions for a stable Farkas lemma to hold. Similarly, we provide characterizations for constrained minimization problems to have the strong or strong stable Lagrangian dualities. Several known results in the conic programming problem are extended and improved.

Constraint Qualifications for Extended Farkas's Lemmas and Lagrangian Dualities in Convex Infinite Programming

This paper concerns a closedness condition called (CC) involving a convex function and a convex constrained system. This type of condition has played an important role in the study of convex optimization problems. Our aim is to establish several characterizations of this condition and to apply them to study problems of minimizing a DC function under a cone-convex constraint and a set constraint. First, we establish several so-called ‘Toland–Fenchel–Lagrange’ duality theorems. As consequences, various versions of generalized Farkas lemmas in dual forms for systems involving convex and DC functions are derived. Then, we establish optimality conditions for DC problem under convex constraints. Optimality conditions for convex problems and problems of maximizing a convex function under convex constraints are given as well. Most of the results are established under the (CC) condition. This article serves as a link between several corresponding known ones published recently for DC programs and for convex programs.

A closedness condition and its applications to DC programs with convex constraints

This paper provides KKT and saddle point optimality conditions, duality theorems and stability theorems for consistent convex optimization problems posed in locally convex topological vector spaces. The feasible sets of these optimization problems are formed by those elements of a given closed convex set which satisfy a (possibly infinite) convex system. Moreover, all the involved functions are assumed to be convex, lower semicontinuous and proper (but not necessarily real-valued). The key result in the paper is the characterization of those reverse-convex inequalities which are consequence of the constraints system. As a byproduct of this new versions of Farkas' lemma we also characterize the containment of convex sets in reverse-convex sets. The main results in the paper are obtained under a suitable Farkas-type constraint qualifications and/or a certain closedness assumption.
