A system that realizes an electronic commerce with an excellent level of safety and convenience. An electronic wallet (100) receives, through radio communications, installing of electronic tickets, electronic prepaid cards and electronic phonecards from a service providing means (110) of electronic commerce. By using these cards and tickets, the user receives goods, services and necessary permissions therefor from a supplier of goods and services. At this time, the user settles accounts by communicating with the terminals of the suppliers (101, 102, 103, 104, 105). The data for the account settling is sent from a supplier to the service providing means, where it is managed. A financial transaction system utilizes multi-factor authentication to secure financial transactions. The system comprises a portable transaction device (e.g. a wireless phone) which is used to program the magnetically or electronically reprogrammable stripe of a magnetic stripe card or the memory of a smart card. A single-use account number may be used to program the card. The device provides biometric authentication and secondary authentication using a secondary wireless device. The device and the programmed cards are used in various financial transactions.

System and method for securing financial transactions

A self-contained payment system uses circulating digital vouchers for the transfer of value. The system creates and transfers digital vouchers. A digital voucher has an identifying element and a dynamic log. The identifying element includes information such as the transferable value, a serial number and a digital signature. The dynamic log records the movement of the voucher through the system and accordingly grows over time. This allows the system operator to not only reconcile the vouchers before redeeming them, but also to recreate the history of movement of a voucher should an irregularity like a duplicate voucher be detected. These vouchers are used within a self-contained system including a large number of remote devices which are linked to a central system. The central system can e linked to an external system. The external system, as well as the a remote devices, are connected to the central system by any one or a combination of networks. The networks must be able to transport digital information, for example the internet, cellular networks, telecommunication networks, cable networks or proprietary networks. Vouchers can also be transferred from one remote device to another remote device. These remote devices can communicate through a number of methods with each other. For example, for a non-face-to-face transaction the internet is a choice, for a face-to-face or close proximity transactions tone signals or light signals are likely methods. In addition, at the time of a transaction a digital receipt can be created which will facilitate a fast replacement of vouchers stored in a lost remote device.

The object of the present invention is to propose an account bankbook, a money transfer card, a receipt file, and a checkbook utilizing an optical card, an IC card, or a hybrid optical/IC card. On the surface of a resin card base board 1 are formed an IC chip 11, an optical recording sheet 13, a magnetic stripe 14, and an embossment 12. In a semiconductor memory within the IC chip 11 are written validation keys, search keys, payee information, the upper limit amount of a check, and a program for processing transaction data. Access restrictions corresponding to various applications are imposed upon these data. The history of various cash transactions is recorded in the optical recording sheet 13. These records are of write-once type and rewriting or deletion thereof is impossible.

This invention aims at providing a bankbook, a money transfer card, a receipt book and a check book which utilize an optical card, an IC card or an optical IC hybrid card. An IC chip (11), an optical recording sheet (13), a magnetic stripe (14) and an embossment (12) are formed on the surface of a resin card substrate (1). A validation key, a search key, transferee account information, an upper limit amount of issuing a check and a transaction data processing program are recorded on a semiconductor memory in the IC chip (11), and each information is access-restricted in accordance with its use. The history of various kinds of monetary transactions is recorded on the optical sheet (13). This recording sheet permits only the additional recording of information, and refuses the rewriting and erasing of recorded information.
