PURPOSE:To obtain the subject material comprising a monocrystal which is stable at a room temp. and does not have center of symmetry and having large SHG activity by forming an org. crystal which has the large SHG activity, from a specified stilbene derivative shown by the formula. CONSTITUTION:The stilbene derivative shown by formula I is incorporated in the subject material comprising the monocrystal which does not have the center of symmetry, and having large effective nonlinear optical constant and the large SHG activity. In the formula, X is a halogen atom such as chlorine, bromine, fluorine and iodine atoms, etc. The stilbene derivative has good crystallinity and is easily obtained the monocrystal of the derivative from an org. solvent of the derivative by a slow evaporation method, etc. The monocrystal of the derivative is stable at the room temp. The stilbene derivative enables to degenerate the symmetry of the crystal by introducing the halogen atom to one of phenyl groups at 4-position thereof as a nucleus substituting group.

USE: The compound expressed by formula I is stable at ambient temperature and has good crystallinity, large second high frequency-generating (SHG) activity and excellent transparency, having λmax at 348nm of short wave region, useful as non-linear optical material and also as fluorescent brightener, larger dye, etc. PREPARATION: 2-(Trimethylsilylmethyl)pyrazine expressed by formula II is reacted with 2-(tert.-butyldimethylsiloxy)benzaldehyde expressed by formula III in a polar organic solvent such as tetrahydrofuran in the presence of an alkyl lithium such as n-BuLi dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent such as n- hexane at a temperature from -78°C to ambient temperature to provide the compound expressed by formula I. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colored photosensitive resin compsn. contg., acrylic resin, a multifunctional monomer and a pigment uniformly dissolved dispersed in a solvent and having very high safety and, a color filter using the same. SOLUTION: This colored photosensitive resin compsn. contains a pigment, acrylic resin, a multifunctional monomer, a photopolymn. initiator and ethyl lactate as a solvent as a solvent. The acrylic resin is a copolymer consisting of 15-25wt.% methacrylic acid, 10-20wt.% 2-hydroxypropyl metahcrylate and 55-75wt.% alkyl (meth)acrylate. Further, a colored layer made of a photoset body of this resin compsn, is patternwise formed on a substrate to obtain the objective color filter.

Single crystals of a new nonlinear optical organic material, 2-cyano-3-(2-methoxyphenyl)-2-propenoic acid methyl ester (CMP-methyl) were grown, and the linear and nonlinear optical properties were investigated in detail. CMP-methyl crystals belong to space group P21, and the lattice parameters are a=4.020 A, b=9.984 A, c=13.757 A, β=92.25° and Z=2. The largest second-order nonlinear optical coefficient was measured to be d22=29 pm/V. Crystals were of fairly good optical quality.
