A moisture vapor barrier film composition can comprise a thermoplastic web comprising a thermoplastic polymer and a dispersed cyclodextrin composition having substituents that compatibilize the cyclodextrin in the film. The thermoplastic/cyclodextrin film obtains substantial barrier properties from the interaction between the substituted cyclodextrin in the film material with a water permeant. The substituents on the cyclodextrin molecule causes the cyclodextrin to be dispersible and stable in the film material resulting in an extrudable thermoplastic. Such materials can be used as a single layer film material, a multilayer film material which can be coated or uncoated and can be used in structural materials wherein the thermoplastic is of substantial thickness resulting in structural stiffness. The cooperation between the cyclodextrin and the thermoplastic polymer provides barrier properties to a web wherein a permeant can be complexed or entrapped by the cyclodextrin compound and held within the film preventing the moisture vapor permeant from passing through the film into the interior of a film, an enclosure or container.

Moisture barrier material comprising a thermoplastic and a compatible cyclodextrin derivative

Thermoplastic multilayer composite, particularly in the form of a multilayer hose, a multilayer pipe or a multilayer container, containing at least one intermediate layer made of a molding compound on the basis of ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymers between layers made of molding compounds on the basis of polyamide, the intermediate layer being bonded via at least one adhesion-promoting layer made of a molding compound on the basis of polyamide selected from the group of copolyamide 6/12, block copolyamide 6/12, polyamide 612, polyamide 610, a mixture of polyamide 6 and polyamide 12 with compatibilizer, a mixture of polyamide 6 and polyamide 11 with compatibilizer, with at least one neighboring layer made of a molding compound on the basis of polyamide 12, polyamide 11, polyamide 1010, polyamide 1012, or polyamide 1212.

Thermoplastic multilayer composites

Carbonated beverages can have a substantially reduced concentration of water soluble materials derived from biaxially oriented thermoformed beverage containers. Such containers can comprise a permeant barrier and an active trap for water soluble materials that can be removed from the thermoplastic by extraction into the carbonated beverage. The improved container material comprises a blow molded thermoplastic polyester web comprising a compatible modified cyclodextrin material having pendent moieties or substituents that render the cyclodextrin material compatible with the container thermoplastic. The cyclodextrin material, after it is added to the polymer material, acts as a barrier and to trap extractable materials as they permeate through the thermoplastic polyester. The cyclodextrin molecule has a large center cavity having properties that increase the likelihood that organic molecules will be absorbed and trapped in the center pore. The resulting polyester is substantially resistant to any extraction of soluble materials from the polyester material by the carbonated beverage.

Rigid polymeric beverage bottles with improved resistance to permeant elution

A decorative laminate panel comprises compressible objects embedded inside, wherein the compressible objects would be flattened in unnatural shapes under conventional processes. For example, an exemplary decorative laminate product comprises thatch reed, willow reed, bamboo, weeds, grasses, twigs and branches of a tree or bush, beans, and so forth. In at least one exemplary implementation of the present invention, an extruded sheet, such as PETG or polycarbonate, is softened and melted around the compressible materials such that the compressible materials do not deform. Imperfections in the decorative laminate panel can be easily removed, thereby allowing for producing a high quality decorative laminate panel with high efficiency and relatively low cost compared with conventional methods and materials.

The sheet is composed of a layer of randomly oriented cellulosic fibers and a layer or a coating which can act as a barrier or a trap for contaminants from the layer of the cellulosic material. This layer comprises an effective permanent absorbing amount of a cyclodextrin compound.

A hollow multi-layer molding made of a multi-layer laminate material, the multi-layer laminate material having: a polyethylene layer; a barrier layer made of a substance selected from the group consisting of polyamide resins, saponified derivatives of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, thermoplastic polyesters, and a mixture of at least two of the polyamide resin, the saponified derivative and the thermoplastic polyester; and an adhesive layer made of a modified polyolefin resin, the polyethylene layer and the barrier layer being laminated to each other with the adhesive layer sandwiched therebetween. The polyethylene layer is made of a high-molecular-weight polyethylene which is obtained by using a specific chrome catalyst and a reducing agent, and which has a high-load melt flow rate (at a temperature of 190°C under a load of 21.6 kg) of 1 to 10 g/10 min., and a density of not less than 0.935 g/cm³. The hollow multi-layer molding has excellent barrier properties with respect to vehicle fuels and excellent mechanical strength, such as impact strength, and is capable of being produced while allowing improved reclaiming of flash and the like.
