The effects of lubricating oil additives on the performance of worm gears

Bu calismada, azdirma yontemi ile disli cark acma islemi sirasinda meydana gelen kesme kuvveti bilesenlerinin kesme parametreleri ile iliskileri deneysel ve istatistiksel olarak incelenmistir. Isleme deneylerinde TiN kaplamali ve kaplamasiz HSS azdirma cakilar kullanilarak, C 8620 malzemeden disli carklar islenmistir. Ayrica, MINITAB R14 yazilimi kullanilarak deney sonuclarinin ANOVA (varyans analizi) testleri yapilmistir. Deney sonuclarina gore; ilerleme yonundeki Fz-kuvvet bileseninin kesme parametrelerindeki degisimlere karsi daha duyarli oldugu gorulmustur. Kaplamali azdirma ile yapilan deneylerde kesme kuvvetleri kaplamasiz azdirmalardan ortalama % 59 oraninda daha az cikmistir.

The author tested the efficiency, load-carrying capacity, and the type of friction in a meshing of a worm gear having the same parameters as worms made of carburized and quenched steel and worm-wheels made of steel, cast iron, and bronze. The type of friction was identified in case of worm gears with steel and cast iron worm-wheel at a volume temperature of the worm-wheel of 100 ℃; these gears did not demonstrate the tendency to seizure. The value of resistance of an oil film formed between the worm and the worm-wheel was accepted as the criterion of the existing type of friction in the meshing during mating of these two elements. The resistance of the oil film in the worm meshing was measured twice each time for two directions of the passage of electric current to avoid the effect of possibly occurring polarization phenomenon. Testing worm gears with cooperating elements made of different materials

In this study, relations between cutting force components and cutting parameters have been investigated as experimental and statistically during gear hobbing process. Gears are machined using TiN coated and uncoated hobs, C 8620 material in machining test. Additionally, ANOVA (Analysis of variance) tests of experimental results were carried out using MINITAB R14 software. With respect to the experimental results force component of Fz at direction of feed rate shown that more sensitive to variation of cutting parameters. Cutting forces on experiments performed by coated hob average ratio of % 59 lower than uncoated hobs.

In making an efficient production of gears of high performance, it is considered best to have them hobbed and finished by shaving, with material of gears as hard as possible provided it can be cut fairly well. In the present paper the authors have made theoretical and experimental studies of a hob with such form and material, as well as cutting oil, as give it the largest durability in cutting large and hard gears. This paper also deals with the form of a hob which reduces the fluctuation of cutting force.

A Study of Gear Hobbing : Chiefly on Cutting Hard Gears

The gearing motion of worm gears is characterized by sliding. To obtain worm gears of high performance, therfore, it is essential to make the actual contact area large enough by finishing them precisely, and exercise special care in the design, manufacture and assembling, in order that the lubricant may pervade evenly all over the contact area. The authors tested the performance of actual worm gears by means of the Power circulating Worm gear testing machine and made it clear that the entry gap and the running-in were very important. The authors also clarified that worm gears were in action under the condition of boundary lubrication.
