An electronic data filing apparatus is disclosed, which includes a unit for displaying an index image for retrieval of data stored in a data storing medium, a unit for storing relative data representing a relation between the data and the index image, a unit for selecting at least one index image from a plurality of index images displayed on the displaying unit, a unit for selecting at least one index image from a plurality of index images displayed on the displaying unit, and a unit for executing retrieval of data according to index image selected by the selecting unit and relative data stored in the storing unit. When a plurality of index images are selected by the selecting unit the retrieval means executes retrieval of data with a combination of relative data corresponding to individual selected index images.

A filing method and apparatus for an electronic filing apparatus. The method includes the steps of reading out index images from an index image storage and displaying the read-out index images on a display having a plurality of display locations. Each of the index images is an image representative of index information used for retrieving image information to be stored in a storage medium and capable of being used as index information for a plurality of image information. Desired index images are selected from among the plurality of index images displayed at the plurality of display locations and the image information to be stored in the storage medium is input and stored in a vacant area of the storage medium. An index file is formed indicating a relationship between the index images selected and a storage address of the image information stored in the storage medium.

CONSTITUTION:Appendant information related to a picture to be retrieved is inputted from a retrieval appendant information input part 43 and is compared with appendant information in the appendant information storage part of a data base to select a matched candidate of picture data. Plural example pictures are inputted from an example picture input part 41, and plural feature quantity data are extracted by a feature quantity calculating part 2. Distances between these feature quantity data and the feature quantity of the selected picture stored in a feature quantity storage part 33 are calculated. These distances are sorted in the descending order by a candidate order determining part, and corresponding picture data is displayed on a display part 7.

An image filing system comprises a display section which can display a plurality of retrieval images indicative of retrieval information to retrieve images stored in a memory medium, a selecting section to select a desired one of the retrieval images displayed on the display section, a retrieving section to retrieve the image associated with the retrieval image from the memory medium on the basis of the retrieval image selected by the selecting section and means for making the image stored in the memory medium which was associated with the first retrieval image selected by the selecting section associate with the second retrieval image selected by the selecting section; and in this system the associating means erases the first retrieval image from the display section.

PURPOSE:To facilitate the retrieval of a document image by using an image obtained by reducing an actual filed document image itself as a means for indexing in addition to key words. CONSTITUTION:A document image reducing means 15 reduces the document image in a document image file means 14. The command for file retrieval is inputted by a command input means 12 and then the key word for document images is inputted, so that a CPU 16 displays the number of document images corresponding to the key word in the document image file means 14. When an operator commands the reference of the reduced image, the CPU 16 reduces said number of document images in the document image file means 14 and displays their list on an image display means 13. The operator, therefore, utilizes the image information directly and easily reads the document images.
