Optical packet switching in core networks: between vision and reality
Tarek S. El-Bawab,Jong-Dug Shin +1 more
TL;DR: This paper examines the future potential of OPS in the core network by discussing this switching approach and the current status of a number of its enabling technologies and sees that optical packet switching may be deployed in the long-term future subject to satisfaction of three main conditions/developments.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
A preemptive scheduling technique for OBS networks with service differentiation
TL;DR: Simulation studies suggest that more than 50% reduction in dropping probability and approximately 40% improvement in channel utilization is reachable at 0.8 load, and the new scheduling technique has the ability to predict and control service performance differentiation among defined service classes.

Method and apparatus for scheduling transmission of data burst in an optical burst switching network
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an approach and method for scheduling transmission of data bursts in an OBS network, where a router is used to collect a group of BHPs arriving during a BHP collecting period and classifying each BHP of the group into corresponding baskets depending on the data channel scheduling window of its corresponding data burst.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Group-scheduling for optical burst switched (OBS) networks
TL;DR: This work introduces a new scheme called OBS group scheduling, in which a burst is represented by an interval of time and graph theory is applied to schedule as many non-overlapping intervals as possible onto the channel time line.

Method and apparatus for supporting operations and maintenance functionality in an optical burst switching network
TL;DR: In this paper, an approach and method for supporting operations and maintenance (OAM) functionality in an OBS network is described, where at least one wavelength in each of the links comprises a reference wavelength for providing a wavelength reference to which light generating devices in the network lock.
