This disclosure is directed to an improved process for making glass articles having optical coating and easy-to clean coating thereon, an apparatus for the process and a product made using the process. In particular, the disclosure is directed to a process in which the application of the optical coating and the easy-to-clean coating can be sequentially applied using a single apparatus. Using the combination of the coating apparatus and the substrate carrier described herein results in a glass article having both optical and easy-to-clean coating that have improved scratch resistance durability and optical performance, and in addition the resulting articles are “shadow free.”

Low reflective, flexible, transparent, laminates including a sheet of flexible plastic substrate, a conductive outer layer on one side of the sheet, and an antireflective stack of at least one pair of oxide layers on at least one of the sides of the sheet, adapted for use as touch panel membrane electrodes in screen interface displays. A preferred laminate includes a flexible, polyethylene terephthalate sheet substrate (1) having on one or both sides a hard coat layer (2), on one side an outer conductive surface (C) of indium tin oxide, and on one or both sides an anti-reflective stack (3) of oxide layers, e.g. a stack of a layer of silicon dioxide and a layer of indium tin oxide. Preferred laminates have at least 90 % transmission and less than 2 % reflection of visible light over the entire range of 460 to 700nm and are especially useful as touch panel electrodes, e.g. on computer display screens.

The present invention relates to an optical article having anti-reflection properties and high thermal resistance, comprising a substrate having at least one main face coated with a multi-layer anti-reflection coating comprising a stack of at least one high refractive index layer and at least one low refractive index layer, wherein the ratio:RT sum of the physical thicknesses of the low refractive index layers of the anti-reflection coating/sum of the physical thicknesses of the high refractive index layers of the anti-reflection coating is higher than 2.1. If the anti-reflection stack comprises at least one low refractive index layer having a physical thickness ≥100nm which is not the outermost layer of the anti-reflection coating, said relatively thick layer and the underlying layers are not taken into account in RT calculation.

Optical article having a temperature-resistant anti-reflection coating with optimized thickness ratio of low index and high index layers

A coated article includes a temperable antireflection (AR) coating that utilizes medium and low index (index of refraction "n") layers having compressive residual stress in the AR coating. In certain example embodiments, the coating may include the following layers from the glass substrate outwardly: silicon oxynitride (SiOxNy) medium index layer/high index layer/low index layer. In certain example embodiments, depending on the chemical and optical properties of the high index layer and the substrate, the medium and low index layers of the AR coating are selected to cause a net compressive residual stress and thus optimize the overall performance of the antireflection coating when the coated article is tempered and/or heat-treated.
