A Reserva Biologica Marinha de Arvoredo compreende uma extensa area (17.800 ha), onde se elevam as ilhas do Arvoredo, Gale, Deserta e calhau de Sao Pedro. O levantamento de especies de ascidias foi realizado por meio de mergulho autonomo m aguas rasas (5-17 m de profundidade). Vinte e seis especies sao aqui registradas, entre as quais Lissoclinum perforatum (Giard, 1872), L. verrilli (Van Name, 1902) e Leptoclinides latus Monniot, 1983 representam novos registros para o Brasil, e outras 19 especies representam novos registros para o Estado de Santa Catarina. Com este resultado, 34 especies de ascidias ja foram registradas em Santa Catarina, das quais 22 sao marcadamente tropicais. Este cenario nao representa a diversidade total da Reserva, uma vez que tres especies novas serao descritas em outra publicacao e os locais mais expostos e profundos das ilhas nao foram amostrados.

Ascídias (Tunicata, Ascidiacea) da Reserva Biológica Marinha do Arvoredo, Santa Catarina, Brasil

Bathyal and abyssal ascidians from the northeast Pacific (Alaska Gulf and Aleutian Islands) and ultra‐abyssal species from the deep‐water trenches in the west Pacific (Kurile‐Kamchatka, Ryukyu, Philippine, and Volcano Trenches) are discussed. Six abyssal species recorded for the first time from the north Pacific were previously known from the southern hemisphere including Antarctica, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic, confirming the cosmopolitan distribution of many abyssal species. Three new species are described and three previously known species are recorded at depths exceeding 7000 m.

Deep-water ascidians (Tunicata: Ascidiacea) from the northern and western Pacific

A colonial ascidian, Synoicum clavatum has previously been reported from Japan. Here, we provide detailed descriptions and illustrations of S. clavatum as the first record in Korea. Synoicum clavatum is characterized by club­ shaped colonies with oval head and elongate stalk, circular cloacal systems, a branchial sac with 14-16 stigmata rows of 10-17 stigmata per row and a stomach with smooth surface. The specimens of S. clavatum were collected in the subtidal zone (15-25 m depth) at Beomseom and Mumseom in Jeju­do while SCUBA diving from 2000 to 2014.
