TL;DR: It is shown by mathematical analyses that WTA-type neural networks composed of nonlinear dynamic model neurons, characterized by a nonlinear loss term, have the WTA property even when their neurons have nonidentical characteristics and the interconnections have nonIdentical strengths.

TL;DR: A pump starting method for hydraulic machinery, by which hydraulic vibrations due to pump no discharge operation can be prevented by beginning pumping-up with adjustable guide vanes being opened before a main valve included in a said inlet valve is fully opened in starting the pump.
Abstract: A pump starting method for hydraulic machinery such as a pump turbine and a pump having adjustable guide vanes and an inlet valve, by which hydraulic vibrations due to pump no discharge operation can be prevented by beginning pumping-up with said adjustable guide vanes being opened before a main valve included in a said inlet valve is fully opened in starting the pump.

TL;DR: During large surgical operations the patient is usually anaesthesized, whereby his muscles are relaxed, which blocks the patient’s spontaneous breathing and during the operation an anaesthesia machine usually takes care of the breathing function.
Abstract: During large surgical operations the patient is usually anaesthesized, whereby his muscles are relaxed. This blocks the patient’s spontaneous breathing and during the operation an anaesthesia machine usually takes care of the breathing function. It transfers the chosen amount of anaesthetic gas mixture to the patient’s lungs during the inspiratory phase and transfers approximately the same amount of gas away from there during the expiratory phase.

TL;DR: LVQ is used to map acoustic contextual data into context independent phonemic form and eliminates the need to employ context dependent phonemic, for example, triphone HMMs, and the difficulties associated therein.

TL;DR: This presentation tends to clarify the essence of the SOM, to set up its theory in the most fundamental form, and to point out what the computing functions are or should be.
Abstract: The number of researchers working on the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) for the present is at least on the order of 1500, and many variants of the basic. model have already been suggested. This presentation tends to clarify the essence of the SOM, to set up its theory in the most fundamental form, and to point out what the computing functions are or should be (e.g., various structures of the network, variants of the cell function, acceleration of learning etc.). After that it will be easier to see along what lines the modifications should be developed. In particular, generalization of the static SOM into a self-organizing array of dynamic operators for sequential data is discussed.
