Wear behaviour of AA6061 aluminium alloy and its composites

The wear resistance of nine eutectic and hypereutectic Al–Si alloys with various compositions and processing routes was studied. Testing was conducted using a pin-on-disc configuration and two different testing speeds. At lower disc speed, the influence of the composition and alloy processing was very strong and a severe wear transition was observed for the alloys with low fractions of primary silicon particles. At higher disc speed, wear of all the alloys but one was very low. The high wear alloy had a high silicon content and a very large primary silicon size; the accelerated wear was caused by cracking and fracture of the large silicon particles upon impact with the abrasive disc material at the higher speed.

Mechanical Properties and Wear Resistance of 6061 Alloy Reinforced with a Hybrid of Al2O3 Fibers and SiC Whiskers

The tensile properties and wear resistance of SiC whisker-reinforced Al alloy 4032 composites were investigated. The elastic modulus of T 6 heat treated SiC/4032 composites can be expressed as E(GPa) = 180Vf(vol pct) + 85. The wear loss of SiC/4032 composites decreases rapidly with an increase in the volume fraction of SiC whisker up to 14 percent, beyond which it remains unchanged. The addition of BN gives rise to the degradation of the mechanical properties and of the coefficient of friction, which improves the wear resistance of the composites. The wear resistance of SiC/4032 composites depends remarkably on the size and distribution of Si particles in the Al alloy 4032 matrix. 20 references.

Mechanical properties and wear resistance of SiC whisker reinforced aluminium alloy 4032 composites containing BN powders

A composite material has plate 4 having holes and a bonded to a first member to form an intermediate layer, and a second member which is made of a material different from the first member 1 laminated onto the intermediate layer 2 while charging a portion of the second member 5 into the holes 3 of the intermediate layer 5 to form a composite material 6 . The holes 3 of the plate 4 which forms the intermediate layer 2 have a shape in such that the charged second member exerts a resisting force against a tensile stress applied in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the first member 1 , e.g., a shape having a first hole opened on the side of the second member and a second hole communicated with the first hole and having a space not overlapped with the first hole, or a shape that an opened area on the side of the second member is smaller than that on the side of the first member.

Composite material and manufacturing method thereof

Provided are a water-lubricated bearing device that exhibits exceptional bearing performance, is exceptionally corrosion resistant, can prevent abnormal bearing wear, and is adaptable when an adverse event occurs in association with a drop in water level; and a hydraulic machine comprising the bearing device. The bearing device of an embodiment is a bearing device of a hydraulic machine having an upright rotating shaft, the bearing device having a water tank for storing lubricating water, and a bearing pad for supporting a skirt member from the radial direction within the lubricating water, the skirt member being provided to the rotating shaft. The bearing device of the embodiment comprises a first support mechanism for supporting the bearing pad in a slidable manner with respect to the radial direction within the lubricating water, and a second support mechanism for supporting the bearing pad in a slidable manner with respect to the axial bottom side within the lubricating water. In the first support mechanism, either a support surface for supporting the bearing pad or a surface to be supported by the supporting surface in the bearing pad is formed into a convex curved shape. In the second support mechanism, either a support surface for supporting the bearing pad or a surface to be supported by the supporting surface in the bearing pad is formed into a convex curved shape.
