A combined matching and harmonic rejection circuit with increased harmonic rejection provided by a split resonance for one or more of the capacitive or inductive elements of the circuit. At a fundamental frequency, the circuit comprises an inductive series arm with capacitive shunt arms. The capacitance of a shunt arm may be provided by two or more parallel paths, each having a capacitor and an inductor in series so that, in addition to providing the effective capacitance necessary for impedance matching at the fundamental frequency, two separate harmonics represented by the series resonances of the parallel paths are rejected. In this manner, an extra null in the circuit's stop-band may be achieved using the same number of shunt elements necessary to achieve impedance matching at the fundamental frequency.

Systems and methods for improved Variable Speed Drives having active inverters include an input filter for filtering common mode and differential mode currents. A three-phase inductor has three windings, each winding of the three-phase inductor having a center tap dividing each winding into a pair of inductor sections; and a three-phase input capacitor bank connected in a wye configuration to the three center taps at one end, and to a common point at the opposite end. The three-phase input capacitor bank provides a short circuit for frequencies above a predetermined fundamental frequency for shunting such frequencies through the three phase capacitor bank, while passing the predetermined fundamental frequency to an input AC power source.

Common mode & differential mode filter for variable speed drive

A harmonic current filtering transformer includes a three-phase input winding and at least two wye-connected three-phase output windings. Windings for each of the phases includes an in-phase coil connected between a common neutral and vector coils for each of the other two phases, the output windings thereby being phase shifted relative to each other by an amount which causes harmonic currents generated by a non-linear load to magnetically cancel in the transformer core. The harmonic current filtering transformer may be used as part of a harmonic cancelling power system which includes multiple linear and nonlinear loads, and protective devices, switches, filters and other components on both the input and output sides of the transformer as in a conventional power system since the harmonic cancelling transformer does not require additional secondary windings or other electrical components previously thought necessary to achieve harmonic cancellation.

Harmonic cancellation system

A ballast adaptor circuit which makes it possible to convert a conventional two lamp rapid start T12 ballast for operation of two T8 fluorescent lamps and by means of a simple modification that does not require cutting wires or extensive rewiring of the T12 ballast device. The adaptor circuit comprises an auxiliary circuit including a tuned series-parallel LC network connected in parallel with either one or both of the lamps. The LC network is tuned to supply an odd harmonic current to the lamps, preferably the seventh harmonic. Improved starting is achieved by adding a series RC circuit and a SIDAC trigger device to the network to produce voltage pulses at the peaks of the AC supply voltage.

Ballast adaptor for improving operation of fluorescent lamps

The fundamental frequency power factor is improved and a practical reduction in significant harmonic current is made in electrical power systems where the power to the load is controlled by a non-linear device, such as a saturable reactor, by using series inductive-capacitive filters to filter the significant harmonic current to act as a shunt for harmonic current in conjunction with a supply line inductive reactance. The resonant frequency of each filter is less than the frequency of the harmonic current and the impedance of each said inductivecapacitive filter is a net inductive reactance. The capacitive element of the filter provides a leading power factor component to compensate for the lagging power factor component imposed on the supply system by the non-linear control device.
