A surgical cutting and fastening instrument is disclosed. According to various embodiments, the instrument includes an end effector comprising an elongate channel, a clamping member pivotably connected to the channel, and a moveable cutting instrument for traversing the channel to cut an object clamped in the end effector by the clamping member when the clamping member is in a clamped position. The instrument may also comprise a main drive shaft assembly for actuating the cutting instrument in the end effector, a gear drive train connected to the main drive shaft assembly, and a motor for actuating the gear drive train. The instrument may also includes a closure trigger and a firing trigger, separate from the closure trigger, for actuating the motor when the firing trigger is retracted. Also, the instrument may comprise a mechanical closure system connected to the closure trigger and to the clamping member for causing the clamping member to pivot to the clamped position when the closure trigger is retracted.

Motor-driven surgical cutting and fastening instrument with tactile position feedback

A motor-driven surgical cutting and fastening instrument that comprises an end effector, an electric motor, and a motor control circuit. The motor control circuit is for monitoring a parameter of the electric motor that is indicative of movement of a moveable member of the end effector, and for adjustably controlling the electric motor based on the monitored parameter to thereby adjustably control movement of the moveable member of the end effector during forward rotation of the electric motor.

Motor-driven surgical cutting instrument

A system for monitoring and the adjustment of control unit parameter settings of vehicle electronic control units (44, 45). The monitoring system may be implemented in a vehicle (12, 14) in which are incorporated one or more electronic control units (44, 45) for regulating one or more operational parameters of the vehicle (12, 14) in accordance with corresponding control unit parameter settings. In an exemplary implementation the vehicle (12, 14) is equipped with a mobile communications terminal, MCT (38), which receives from a base station (18) a list of operational parameters to be monitored. Each of the electronic control units (44, 45), as well as a memory unit (62), are connected to an internal data link (40) of the vehicle. When a parameter value within the memory unit (62) corresponding to a given electronic control unit (44, 45) is changed, a message is provided to the base station (18) specifying the value currently registered by the particular electronic control unit (44, 45). The currently registered value is then compared to an expected parameter value, and an error message is generated if disagreement exists therebetween. The system also allows vehicle electronic control unit parameter settings to be adjusted from a remote location such as a base station (18).

Method and apparatus for monitoring parameters of vehicle electronic control units

A system for communication between a fleet of vehicles (12, 14) and a central base station (22), where each of the vehicles includes one or more vehicle subsystems (31A, 31B) connected to a vehicle data link (32), is disclosed herein. Within each vehicle (12), message packets generated by vehicle subsystems (31A, 31B) are placed upon the vehicle data link (32). Each message packet includes header information identifying a given vehicle and subsystem thereof. The message packets are transmitted from the fleet of vehicles (12, 14) to the central base station (22), and routed within the central base station (22) based on the header information. Control information and the like may also be transmitted by the central base station (22) for receipt by various vehicle subsystems (31A, 31B) within selected ones of the fleet vehicles (12, 14). Each message packet generated by the central base station (22) includes header information identifying at least a particular fleet vehicle (12) and vehicle subsystem (31A). This allows each message packet to be retrieved by the specified vehicle subsystem (31A) by way of the vehicle data link (32).

Method and apparatus for the remote monitoring and configuration of electronic control systems

An apparatus and method for a tracking device to inconspicuously track a person to be monitored (such as a child or at-risk adult) are presented. Some embodiments of the present invention combine a positioning receiver (e.g., a GPS receiver) and a locking mechanism to act as a tracking device, which attaches to an article of clothing or fabric wearable by the person to be monitored. Some embodiments of the present invention keep a positioning receiver and a radio frequency identification tag (RFID tag) or other RF tag, which are physically separate but in RF proximity of each other.
