According to W. Edwards Deming, American companies require nothing less than a transformation of management style and of governmental relations with industry. In Out of the Crisis, originally published in 1982, Deming offers a theory of management based on his famous 14 Points for Management. Management's failure to plan for the future, he claims, brings about loss of market, which brings about loss of jobs. Management must be judged not only by the quarterly dividend, but by innovative plans to stay in business, protect investment, ensure future dividends, and provide more jobs through improved product and service. In simple, direct language, he explains the principles of management transformation and how to apply them.

Out of the Crisis

In this book, Andrew Harvey sets out to provide a unified and comprehensive theory of structural time series models. Unlike the traditional ARIMA models, structural time series models consist explicitly of unobserved components, such as trends and seasonals, which have a direct interpretation. As a result the model selection methodology associated with structural models is much closer to econometric methodology. The link with econometrics is made even closer by the natural way in which the models can be extended to include explanatory variables and to cope with multivariate time series. From the technical point of view, state space models and the Kalman filter play a key role in the statistical treatment of structural time series models. The book includes a detailed treatment of the Kalman filter. This technique was originally developed in control engineering, but is becoming increasingly important in fields such as economics and operations research. This book is concerned primarily with modelling economic and social time series, and with addressing the special problems which the treatment of such series poses. The properties of the models and the methodological techniques used to select them are illustrated with various applications. These range from the modellling of trends and cycles in US macroeconomic time series to to an evaluation of the effects of seat belt legislation in the UK.

– The purpose of this paper is to report the state‐of‐the‐art of servitization by presenting a clinical review of literature currently available on the topic. The paper aims to define the servitization concept, report on its origin, features and drivers and give examples of its adoption along with future research challenges., – In determining the scope of this study, the focus is on articles that are central and relevant to servitization within a wider manufacturing context. The methodology consists of identifying relevant publication databases, searching these using a wide range of key words and phrases associated with servitization, and then fully reviewing each article in turn. The key findings and their implications for research are all described., – Servitization is the innovation of an organisation's capabilities and processes to shift from selling products to selling integrated products and services that deliver value in use. There are a diverse range of servitization examples in the literature. These tend to emphasize the potential to maintain revenue streams and improve profitability., – Servitization does not represent a panacea for manufactures. However, it is a concept of significant potential value, providing routes for companies to move up the value chain and exploit higher value business activities. There is little work to date that can be used to help practitioners., – This paper provides a useful review of servitization and a platform on which to base more in‐depth research into the broader topic of service‐led competitive strategy by drawing on the work from other related research communities.

Hierzu werden die Entwicklungsperspektiven fur den anvisierten Ausbau der Dienstleistungen aufgezeigt und Hindernisse beim professionellen Dienstleistungsmanagement veranschaulicht. Danach werden Erfolgsfaktoren illustriert und anwendungsorientierte Gestaltungshinweise gegeben. Die zielgerichtete Gestaltung dieser Erfolgsfaktoren fordert den Professionalisierungsgrad im Dienstleistungsmanagement produzierender Unternehmen. Dieser gesteigerte Professionalisierungsgrad ermoglicht es, die Potenziale besser auszuschopfen und Hindernisse einfacher zu uberwinden.

This paper presents a holistic model for the management of international manufacturing networks. It focuses on the relation among the decision dimensions strategy, configuration and coordination. Based on an extensive literature review, a conceptual model is presented. The model has been validated multiple times. Its applicability is demonstrated in this paper along of an illustrative case study. We contribute to the literature on manufacturing strategy and especially the new paradigm of manufacturing networks addressing the lack of management tools in this field. Findings are limited by the narrow body of knowledge about the diverse field of manufacturing network management.
