Hypertension, the renin-angiotensin system, and the risk of lower respiratory tract infections and lung injury: implications for COVID-19.
Reinhold Kreutz,Engi Abd El-Hady Algharably,Michel Azizi,Piotr Dobrowolski,Tomasz J. Guzik,Andrzej Januszewicz,Alexandre Persu,Aleksander Prejbisz,Thomas Günther Riemer,Ji-Guang Wang,Michel Burnier +10 more
TL;DR: A critical review of available evidence does not support a deleterious effect of RAS blockers in COVID-19 infections, and therefore, there is currently no reason to discontinue Ras blockers in stable patients facing the CO VID-19 pandemic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Working memory training improvements and gains in non-trained cognitive tasks in young and older adults
Stephan Heinzel,Stefanie Schulte,Johanna Onken,Quynh-Lam Duong,Thomas Günther Riemer,Andreas Heinz,Norbert Kathmann,Michael A. Rapp +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that working memory training may be a beneficial intervention for maintaining and improving cognitive functioning in old age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Do β-Blockers Cause Depression?: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Psychiatric Adverse Events During β-Blocker Therapy.
Thomas Günther Riemer,Linda Elizabeth Villagomez Fuentes,Engi Abd El-Hady Algharably,Marie S Schäfer,Eva Mangelsen,Marc-Alexander Fürtig,Nadine Bittner,Annalena Bär,Laila Zaidi Touis,Kristian Wachtell,Tomislav Majić,Martin J Dinges,Reinhold Kreutz,Reinhold Kreutz +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed a systematic search for double-blind, randomized controlled trials investigating β-blockers to analyze the risk of PAEs or withdrawal of therapy due to PAEs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Erratum to: Hypertension, the renin-angiotensin system, and the risk of lower respiratory tract infections and lung injury: implications for COVID-19: European Society of Hypertension COVID-19 Task Force Review of Evidence.
Reinhold Kreutz,Engi Abd El-Hady Algharably,Michel Azizi,Piotr Dobrowolski,Tomasz J. Guzik,Andrzej Januszewicz,Alexandre Persu,Aleksander Prejbisz,Thomas Günther Riemer,Ji-Guang Wang,Michel Burnier +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a critical review on the relationship of hypertension, renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and risk of lung injury was provided, concluding that there is no sound evidence that hypertension per se is an independent risk factor for COVID-19.
Journal ArticleDOI
Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) genotype affects age-related changes in plasticity in working memory: a pilot study.
Stephan Heinzel,Thomas Günther Riemer,Stefanie Schulte,Johanna Onken,Andreas Heinz,Michael A. Rapp +5 more
TL;DR: The findings indicate that age-related changes in plasticity in working memory are critically affected by genetic variation in prefrontal dopamine metabolism.
