Microstructure and surface mechanical property of AZ31 Mg/SiCp surface composite fabricated by Direct Friction Stir Processing
TL;DR: In this article, a hollow and pinless DFSP tool was designed to fabricate the surface composite on the AZ31 plate of rolling state, which was then pressed into the workpiece as the rotating tool advanced along it just like a planter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hierarchical microstructure for improved fatigue properties in a eutectic high entropy alloy
TL;DR: In this article, a unique microstructure was observed in 50% cold-rolled and heat-treated eutectic high-entropy alloy (EHEA) with recrystallized FCC grains and B2 precipitates in FCC lamellae with different microstructural length scale.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hierarchical features infused heterogeneous grain structure for extraordinary strength-ductility synergy
Shivakant Shukla,Deep Choudhuri,Tianhao Wang,K. Liu,Robert W. Wheeler,Sarah Williams,Bharat Gwalani,Rajiv S. Mishra +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a synergistic balance of strength and ductility was achieved in a prototypical fcc-based Al0.3CoCrFeNi complex concentrated alloy by incorporating hierarchical microstructural features into heterog...
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of intermetallic compound layer at aluminum/steel interface joined by friction stir scribe technology
Tianhao Wang,Tianhao Wang,Harpreet Sidhar,Rajiv S. Mishra,Yuri Hovanski,Piyush Upadhyay,Blair E. Carlson +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the diffusion-based formation of a FexAly intermetallic compound (IMC) layer was investigated in friction-stir welding of aluminum and steel.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simultaneous enhancement of strength and ductility in an AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy via friction stir processing
TL;DR: In this paper, the eutectic structure of as-cast AlCoCrFeNi2.1 was tailored by friction stir processing (FSP), and the combined effect of microstructural evolution in the processed region improved the ultimate tensile strength from ∼1000 MPa to 1360MPa, the ductility from ∼6.5% to 10%, and the microhardness from ∼300 HV0.2 to 450 HV 0.5
