Controlled trial of routine administration of platelet concentrates in cardiopulmonary bypass surgery

TL;DR: Prophylactic administration of platelet concentrates to patients undergoing their first cardiopulmonary bypass operation (coronary artery bypass grafting or uncomplicated valve replacement) was evaluated and thrombocytopenia and prolongation of bleeding time did not correlate with blood loss or transfusion needs.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparative analysis of pulmonary perfusion scans with pulmonary angiograms.

TL;DR: Data demonstrate that, in addition to the lack of specificity of the lung perfusion scan for the diagnosis of pulmonary thromboemboli, there is a considerable problem of interpretation in this patient population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Extension of platelet concentrate storage.

TL;DR: Bleeding times shortened in three of four patients receiving platelet concentrates stored from 4 to 6 days in the new plastic, and the concentrates were superior at any storage interval to those stored in bags made of the other plastics studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Urokinase-Streptokinase Pulmonary Embolism Trial (Phase II) Results

TL;DR: The results of the first phase of that study showed that 12 hours of urokinase compared to heparin and oral anticoagulants alone increased the resolution rate of pulmonary thromboemboli, especially massive emboli, as judged by arteriography, hemodynamics, and lung scanning, assessed within 24 hours of therapy.
