Oscillating-water-column wave energy converters and air turbines: A review

The wave energy is having more and more interest and support as a promising renewable resource to replace part of the energy supply, although it is still immature compared to other renewable technologies. This work presents a complete analysis of the wave energy technology, starting with the characterisation of this global resource in which the most suitable places to be exploited are showed, and the classification of the different types of wave energy converters in according to several features. It is also described in detail each of the stages that are part in the energy conversion, that is, from the capture of the energy from the waves to the extraction of a proper electrical signal to be injected to the grid. Likewise, existing offshore energy transmission alternatives and possible layouts are described.

The invention relates to an injector used for an internal combustion engine, in which a favorable magnetic attraction force is obtained to reduce a controllable minimum injection amount of a fuel injection amount. In a fuel injection valve in which a fixed core (107) and a moving element (114) is contained inside a pipe-shaped member (101), and a coil (105) and a yoke (103) are provided on an outer side thereof, a space for placing the coil (105) is placed so that an inner circumference length in a vertical section of the space becomes smaller than an outside diameter of the yoke (103), or a height of the space in an axial direction of the fixed core (107) becomes smaller than a diameter of the fixed core (107).

Aerodynamic Performance of an Impulse Turbine with Self-Pitch-Controlled Guide Vanes for Wave Power Generator

In order to clarify the starting and running characteristics of a Wells turbine in an oscillating flow, an experimental investigation has been performed. The results have been compared with the analytical results. In the analysis, both starting and running characteristics were calculated on the basis of the experimental results obtained under steady unidirectional flow conditions. Comparison between experiment and analysis has shown that the effect of hysteresis and Reynolds number on torque coefficient should be considered in the analysis. Furthermore, running characteristics have been investigated from a view point of the method of load control.

Studies on Wells Turbine for Wave Power Generator : 4th Report, Starting and Running Characteristics in Periodically Oscillating Flow

In order to develop an air-turbine with self-pitch-controlled blades for wave power utility, experimental investigations have been performed by model testing of turbine rotors with fixed staggered blades under steady operating conditions. Twelve kinds of rotors have been manufactured and tested to investigate the effect of setting angle, thickness/chord ratio, aspect ratio and solidity on the turbine performance. The results have shown that the self-pitch-controlled turbine is superior to the wells turbine both in starting and running characteristics. A suitable choice of the design factors has been suggested.

Air Turbine with Self-Pitch-Controlled Blades for Wave Power Generator (Estimation of Performance by Model Testing)

PURPOSE: To improve the durability of the bearing of a turbine, reduce noise, and increase the output by providing a rotary shaft rotatably supporting end sections of guide blades and stoppers limiting the guide blades within the preset rotating range. CONSTITUTION: A turbine 3 rotatably supported in a guide 2 guiding the air stream is constituted of a rotor hub 6 fixed to an output shaft and turbine blades 7 fixed on the outer periphery of the rotor hub 6 at one end. The guide blades 8 are rotatably supported by a rotary shaft 9 at the end section on the turbine blade 7 side. The guide blades 8 are automatically moved in direction, and the air stream is guided to the turbine 3.
