A transition delay time between an onset of the inactive state and a transition between the first dimming level and the second dimming level may be controlled. The first dimming level, the second dimming level, and/or the transition delay time may be variably set or controlled locally or via a remote device.

In a different embodiment, a device has a radiation generator, a thermal spreader that receives heat emitted by the radiation generator, heat conducting structure that carries heat from the thermal spreader to a location spaced therefrom, and heat dissipating structure that accepts heat at the location from the heat conducting structure and that discharges the heat externally of the device.

Method and apparatus for cooling a lightbulb

A fluorescent light tube retrofit with light emitting diodes (LEDs) that evenly distribute light to avoid bright spots is disclosed. One tube in the form of a conventional fluorescent tube includes two LEDs mounted to the tube on opposite sides of a single circumference of the tube. The LEDs can face the center of the tube, or the LEDs can be offset facing relative to the center of the tube. A reflecting surface can be disposed inside the tube to reflect light evenly toward an arc of the tube. Alternatively, at least one LED can be oriented to direct light into a light pipe that curves around the interior of the tube.

Light distribution using a light emitting diode assembly

A LED-based replacement light for a fluorescent socket is constructed such that an entirety of a radially outer portion of a tubular housing at least partially defined by a high-dielectric light transmitting portion is formed of a high-dielectric material. Forming a radially outer portion of the tubular housing of a high-dielectric material prevents a person handling the light from being shocked as a result of capacitive coupling occurring when the LED-based replacement light is installed one end at a time. A circuit board is in thermally conductive relation with the tubular housing, allowing for conduction of heat generated by the LEDs from a side of circuit board opposite the LEDs to the tubular housing for dissipation to the ambient environment.

An LED lamp including a lamp housing, an LED light source, a heat sink and a control circuit. The lamp housing has an accommodating space, a plurality of air inlets and a plurality of air outlets, wherein the accommodating space joins an environment through the air inlets and the air outlets. The LED light source and the heat sink are disposed in the accommodating space and the heat sink is connected with the LED light source. The heat sink includes a pedestal and a plurality of heat dissipation fins connected to the pedestal. An air convection channel is located between any two adjacent heat dissipation fins. Air from the environment flows into the accommodating space, passes through the air convection channel, and leaves the accommodating space via the air outlets sequentially. The control circuit is disposed in the accommodating space and connected to the LED light source.

A light-emitting diode (LED) assembly includes a heat dissipation device (30) and at least one LED (10). The heat dissipation device has a connecting surface (33) with circuitry (20) being directly formed thereon. The at least one LED is electrically connected with the circuitry, and is maintained in thermal and mechanical contact with the connecting surface to dissipate heat generated thereby through the heat dissipation device. A method for making the LED assembly includes steps of: (A) providing a heat dissipation device having a surface for the LED to be mounted thereon; (B) insulating the surface; (C) forming circuitry on the insulated surface directly to obtain a connecting surface; (D) attaching the LED to the connecting surface of the heat dissipation device thermally and mechanically, and connecting the LED with the circuitry electrically to form the LED assembly.

A light-emitting diode (LED) includes a heat sink ( 10 ) having a cross section along an axial direction thereof being U-shaped. The heat sink includes a substrate ( 102 ) and a sidewall ( 11 ) extending from an outer periphery of the substrate. A circuit board ( 40 ) is received in the heat sink and arranged on the substrate. At least one LED ( 30 ) is arranged on and electrically connected to the circuit board and thermally connected with the substrate of the heat sink. A plurality of fins ( 100 ) extend outwardly from an outer surface ( 110 ) of the sidewall of the heat sink. Each fin has a plurality of branches ( 100 a, 100 b ) being connected together at the outer surface of the sidewall and being spaced from each other at outer-peripheries thereof.

A light emitting diode (LED) assembly includes at least an LED (102), a substrate (20), a heat dissipation apparatus (40) and at least one securing frame (30). The substrate forms a set of electrical circuitry (22) thereon. The at least one LED is arranged on a side of the substrate and electrically connected with the set of electrical circuitry of the substrate. The heat dissipation apparatus is arranged on an opposite side of the substrate. The securing frame includes a pressing portion (32) securing the substrate with the heat dissipation apparatus detachably.

A heat dissipation assembly used for dissipating heat from heat generating electronic components includes a mounting frame, a heat sink and a fan duct. The heat sink is positioned on the mounting frame; the fan duct is attached to the heat sink.
